Former UFC star Dustin Poirier has taken the time to reflect on the airport incident in which he was arrested for public intoxication.
For the longest time now, Dustin Poirier has been seen as a big fan favorite within the world of mixed martial arts. However, ever since his retirement, DP has made it clear that he has been struggling with being away from the fight game. In the wake of that, it was recently revealed that ‘The Diamond’ had been arrested after a drunken confrontation with a police officer.
Initially, there were no details about what exactly Dustin Poirier had done to warrant being arrested. Eventually, though, footage of what went down surfaced, with fans being split between showing sympathy for Poirier and wanting to condemn him for his actions.
In a recent interview, Dustin Poirier himself made it clear that he is grateful for how the officer in question handled the situation.
Dustin Poirier reflects on airport incident
“The desk agent might have saw I was intoxicated and was like, ‘No, you can’t get on the plane,’ and that might have [been] what started it,” Poirier said on The Diary of a CEO. “I don’t know. But I do want to apologize to those desk agents, whoever they are, and the police for having to put up with me, man.
“I actually asked a lawyer in Atlanta, who I’ve been working with, if he can, please, give me that officer’s information, his address, if I can write him a letter, his cell phone if I can call him. Just to tell him how great of a job he did dealing with a person in that condition, and how professional he was. He was incredible. It could’ve been so much worse.
“I just want to thank him. I didn’t get to do that.”

While there are no excuses for Poirier’s behavior during the incident, it certainly feels like he is on the road to recovery as he attempts to make amends. Either way, it doesn’t feel like a return to competitive fighting is the right route forward.
