Rangers are looking to rebuild their midfield, after coming up short in their pursuit of the Scottish Premiership title last season, and they have already secured the signature of Dan Neil.
Speaking after his arrival, Neil said: “It is a new chapter for myself, and I am really excited to be signing for Rangers. I’m really looking forward to what the next few years can bring.
“I have played for Sunderland for a number of years and the weight and expectation of the fans to win every week, and the feeling of it making or breaking people’s weekends, is something that drives me.”
However, with the Scottish side bracing for Nicolas Raskin‘s exit, they remain in the hunt to sign a new midfielder, holding talks to sign Partizan’s Vanja Dragojevic.
Dragojevic is not the only target on the shortlist though, with the Gers also entering negotiations regarding a deal for Sturm Graz star Ryan Fosso.

|
Credibility |
The news comes from Sky Sports reporter Sacha Tavolieri, which suggests it is trustworthy. The Gers need to strengthen in the middle of the park, with Raskin expected to leave, so a deal for Fosso could make sense. |
|
Finances |
It is unclear how much Sturm Graz would demand for the central midfielder, but they shelled out €900,000 (£768,000) to sign him from Fortuna Sittard in January, which provides a reference point. |
|
Insight |
The 24-year-old is primarily a defensive midfielder, and he made 14 appearances for Sturm Graz after joining in January, picking up one goal and one assist. |

Impact |
Raskin also often plays in a deeper role. As such, the Cameroonian could be a like-for-like replacement. However, he may find it difficult to compete with Neil for a starting spot, considering the former Sunderland midfielder’s experience south of the border. |
Rangers in talks to sign Ryan Fosso
As revealed by Tavolieri, in a report for Sky Sports (via Sport Witness), Rangers have entered negotiations to sign Fosso, and they have now moved into pole position in the race for his signature.
However, Levante have submitted a concrete offer, and Torino remain keen, so the Gers will have to ward off competition from elsewhere if they are to get a deal over the line.
How Ryan Fosso compares to Dan Neil
Neil has no experience in Scottish football, but he is, at the very least, proven in the English Championship, winning promotion with Sunderland in 2025 and Ipswich Town last season.
The Englishman made 44 appearances for the Black Cats during the regular season, averaging 1.9 tackles per 90 and 1.1 interceptions per 90.
Fosso, on the other hand, averaged 2.3 tackles and 1.5 interceptions per 90 for Fortuna Sittard in the Eredivisie, indicating he may be more solid than Neil from a defensive point of view.
Upon signing for Sturm Graz in January, the two-cap Cameroon international was also lauded by sporting director Michael Parensen, who said: “Ryan Fosso brings not only tremendous athleticism but also game intelligence, dynamism, and the right mentality – many of the qualities we were looking for in this position.”
Should the Austrian side be willing to cash-in on their January signing so soon, he could be an excellent addition to Derek McInnes’ squad.
