There has been plenty of smoke surrounding Michigan Wolverines athletic director Warde Manuel and his job status.
Usually, when there’s smoke, there’s fire, and that’s especailly true in college sports where insiders are normally embedded into a college town and the programs they cover — or at the very least they have sources that are.
That’s why ears perked up when local reporter Justin Spiro said that Manuel will be “out’ as the AD at Michigan and that the university was actively working toward his release.
On3’s Pete Nakos then followed that up by reporting that the Michigan Board of Regents would be meeting on Thursday to discuss, amongst other things, Warde’s future with the Wolverines.
Momentum seems to be trending towards Manuel getting fired by Michigan after 10 years on the job, but the 58-year-old former football player is disputing that.
In public comments released on Monday, Manuel said that he’s been having conversations with university president Domenico Grasso.
“The president and I have had several great conversations over the past couple of days,” Manuel said via Ross Dellenger of Yahoo. “There are no plans for me not to continue to be the athletic director for the near future.”
