Leeds United have been making multiple enquiries to sign Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio, as their search for a new goalkeeper continues.

Lucas Perri’s future at Elland Road is up in the air, after a shaky debut campaign, in which he was replaced by Karl Darlow in the starting XI, and Leeds have been targeting Parma star Zion Suzuki as a replacement, with the 23-year-old starring for Japan at the World Cup.

However, a fellow Serie A goalkeeper has now emerged as an option, namely Di Gregorio, who kept 13 clean sheets in the league last season, which was the fourth-highest number in the division, and eight more than Suzuki.

The Juventus shot-stopper, who rakes in £60,000-a-week, recorded a save percentage of 70.9% across the Serie A season too, slightly more than Suzuki’s 70.2%.

Matteo Belloni, the goalkeeper’s agent, has also made it clear his client is constantly striving to improve, and has the correct “mentality” to succeed, saying: “He’s working hard to improve continuously. He set up a gym at home so he could train on his days off. He has an incredible mentality, and his desire is to be part of a Juventus side that rewrites history and wins important trophies.”

As revealed by Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Leeds have been in constant contact to sign Di Gregorio, and the goalkeeper is now likely to leave the Serie A side this summer.

Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez and Tottenham Hotspur’s Guglielmo Vicario have been identified as replacements for the Italian, with Juve looking to raid the Premier League.

Suzuki remains the Whites’ top target, but the 28-year-old has now been identified as an alternative option. It will be important to get at least two new goalkeepers through the door this summer, with Karl Darlow joining Manchester United and Illan Meslier signing for Arsenal.

Football FanCast’s Verdict

Credibility

Leeds are well-known to be in the market for a new goalkeeper, and Di Gregorio could be a solid option, having outperformed Suzuki in terms of save percentage and clean sheets in the Serie A last season. Perri made just 16 Premier League appearances last season, which indicates he isn’t trusted by Daniel Farke, who needs to sign a replacement.

Finances

It is unclear what sort of fee Juventus will demand for their goalkeeper. However, the fact they are willing to offload him suggests they may not be too demanding with their asking price.

Insight

The Milan-born goalkeeper is very experienced in the Serie A, making 133 appearances in the competition, during which time he’s conceded 141 goals and kept 50 clean sheets. The Juventus star also kept two clean sheets in six Champions League outings last season.

Impact

Leeds need to sign a back-up goalkeeper, following Darlow’s departure, but Di Gregorio doesn’t fit that mould, given his experience in the Serie A and Champions League. Instead, he could be brought in as a direct replacement for Perri, who kept just three Premier League clean sheets in the 2025-26 campaign.
