Big-money target now “only wants Rangers”

The 2025/26 season isn’t one which will necessarily live long in the memory for Glasgow Rangers, the campaign ending on a sour note as the Ibrox side saw their Premiership title hopes go up in smoke.

The brightest spark in a turbulent year was no doubt Mikey Moore, the teenager overcoming a slow start to emerge as arguably the most consistent force in Danny Rohl’s forward line.

He scored seven times in the Premiership, while contributing three assists, yet that doesn’t tell the full story, with the 18-year-old producing an array of truly dazzling displays on the flanks.

The hope had been that the Tottenham Hotspur starlet would return to Glasgow in some form or another this summer, although whether that is still a realistic possibility remains to be seen.

The latest on Mikey Moore’s future

Former Gers boss Rohl had made it clear that he wanted to keep Moore on board for 2026/27, with talks said to have been held in the latter stages of the season regarding an extended stay.

There had even been claims that the Light Blues might be pursuing a permanent move, although a second loan spell appeared more likely, with the player likely to fetch upwards of £40m by all accounts.

As things stand now, there hasn’t been any concrete suggestion that a return is on the cards, while perhaps the change in the dugout has influenced matters, with Moore shining so brightly under Rohl’s watch.

With his parent club, Spurs, also scraping to Premier League survival on the final day back in May, there’s also the question of whether he will now have a role to play under new manager Roberto De Zerbi.

Equally too, Rangers are facing rival interest from Borussia Dortmund in the race for his signature, with the German giants pursuing a loan move of their own.

There has also been an offer from newly-promoted Ipswich Town rebuffed by Tottenham, with clubs queuing up to get Moore in the door before the window closes.

A return to Ibrox does appear unlikely on current evidence, ensuring the Gers might have to look elsewhere for their next young sensation.

It’s six in the door as things stand, but Derek McInnes and co aren’t stopping there, with a deal believed to be progressing for Partizan Belgrade star, Vanja Dragojevic.

More excitingly too, a move also appears imminent for Tromso midfielder, Jens Hjerto-Dahl, the 20-year-old looking set to shun rival interest in order to join McInnes’ ranks.

As reported by one notable transfer insider, the playmaker “only wants Rangers”, with the club now engaging in talks with the Norwegian side to try and strike an agreement.

It is claimed that the young Scandinavian has turned down more financially attractive offers from both Cardiff City and Celtic, having been ‘fully convinced’ by McInnes.

Two bids have been rejected thus far, but this is all heading in the right direction, with Hjerto-Dahl set to prove a real coup for the Old Firm outfit.

Indeed, based on what he’s shown back in Norway, the in-demand midfielder might go on to even eclipse what Moore produced last term, likely to be the Premiership’s latest breakout star if recent evidence is anything to go by.

In the 2026 Eliteserien season so far, for instance, Hjerto-Dahl has already scored seven goals in just 14 games, a fine return considering he is typically deployed in a deep-lying midfield role.

There’s an elegance and silk to his game that certainly mirrors Moore, with the eye-catching talent notably averaging 1.4 successful dribbles per game this year, a remarkable return considering his size and position.

For context, Moore, while operating as a winger, was only just ahead last term with a 1.5 average in that regard.

The Tromso man is up to eight goals and assists in his 13 league games this calendar year, only one shy of what Moore achieved in the entirety of the Premiership last term (nine). Again, for a reminder, Hjerto-Dahl is a midfielder, not a number ten or forward.

There’s been an obvious improvement this year, but it’s not as if his form has been a flash in the pan, having racked up eight goals and assists in 2025, while enjoying a 1.3 average in terms of successful dribbles.

Of course, there’s a lot to like about McInnes’ pursuit of Premiership-proven players, i.e Cammy Devlin and Lawrence Shankland, but the signing of Hjerto-Dahl would surely eclipse the lot.

At just 20, he may need time to settle in, but don’t be surprised if he goes on to prove an even more astute signing than Moore was last term.
