Rangers could sign an even more impactful player than Raskin for £5m

Glasgow Rangers have yet to make a major sale from their crop of first-team stars since the summer transfer window opened for business last month.

Jack Butland made a £3m move to Premier League side Hull City to go and be a back-up down south, with Ivor Pandur coming the other way for £6m to replace him.

However, they have not sold anyone for significant money. That may soon change, though, as central midfielder Nicolas Raskin is attracting plenty of interest.

Manchester United and Real Betis are just two of several teams who are in the running to sign the Belgium international before the end of the window.

Why Rangers need to cash in on Nicolas Raskin

Losing the 25-year-old star would be a blow for Derek McInnes after the midfield talent scored six goals and provided seven assists in 33 appearances in the Scottish Premiership in the 2025/26 campaign.

It could be the perfect time for the Ibrox giants to cash in on the Belgian, though, because his current contract with the club is due to expire in the summer of 2028.

That means that he will only have a year left on his deal if they do not sell him this year and attempt to keep him for another season, reducing his value as interested teams could then decide to hold off and wait to land him on a free transfer.

Raskin, who played just shy of 100 matches in the last two seasons, may want to test himself in one of Europe’s major leagues as he heads into the prime years of his career at the age of 25.

Convincing him to put pen to paper on a contract extension, therefore, may be a tall order for the Gers, which is why cashing in on him this summer, whilst his value is high, could be a smart move by the club.

Rangers agree personal terms with Raskin replacement

Another reason why the 49ers should be willing to green-light an exit for Raskin is that they are already looking at a replacement who could offer even more to the team in the middle of the park.

TEAMtalk reports that Glasgow Rangers are in ongoing talks with Tromso over a deal to sign Norwegian talent Jens Hjerto-Dahl in the summer transfer window.

The outlet claims that the Light Blues have already agreed personal terms with the 20-year-old central midfielder, who is keen on a move to Ibrox ahead of next season.

It adds that it could take a fee of around £5m to land the Norway U21 international, and that a sale of Raskin for £17m or more, with Villarreal keen, would help to fund the deal.

Hjerto-Dahl has already scored seven goals in 14 league matches in the 2026 Eliteserien campaign for Tromso, scoring a fantastic goal from distance in their latest game on Saturday.

The £5m-rated star is averaging 0.64 goal contributions per game from a central midfield position for the Norwegian side, which shows that he is making a consistent impact at the top end of the pitch.

Raskin, who won the club’s Player of the Year award in the 2024/25 campaign, averaged 0.39 goal contributions per appearance last season in the Premiership, and 0.42 in the 2024/25 term with four goals and ten assists in 33 matches.

These statistics suggest that Hjerto-Dahl has the potential to be far more impactful at the top end of the pitch in comparison to Raskin, as he offers a greater and more consistent threat to the opposition’s goal.

Replacing the Belgian with this transfer target, therefore, could improve the strength of McInnes’ attack and provide the team with a more impressive attacking arsenal to go and blow teams away in the Premiership next term.

If he can adapt to the physicality and intensity of the Premiership, Hjerto-Dahl could be a phenomenal addition to the squad as a goalscoring midfielder who could win the Gers plenty of points with his contributions in the final third.
