Spurs start work on signing a “Luis Suarez regen”

In Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, Tottenham Hotspur look to have successfully healed their defence.

In Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, they have added immense quality to their midfield. Now all that is missing is a signing or two in the attacking line.

Roberto De Zerbi and Co are trying but have so far yet to strengthen on the flanks or at centre-forward.

Deals are certainly in the pipeline. Talks are ongoing to sign Savinho from Manchester City while Eli Junior Kroupi’s situation at Bournemouth continues to be monitored.

Why Kroupi is now Tottenham’s number one target

Tonali and Fernandes will add a great deal more star power to a struggling Tottenham side heading into 2025/26 but there is a sense that they are still missing genuine quality in the final third.

Last term, their top scorer in all competitions was Richarlison with 12 and it is widely expected that the Brazilian will leave.

Behind him, the next few top scorerers were dominated by defensive players. As a result of that, it’s clear to see why they want to add more quality to their attacking line.

At the moment, Kroupi is not the end product, far from it. Last term, he scored 13 goals. Compared to Richarlison, it’s only one more but the fact he did so in his first season in English football is remarkable.

Now 20 years of age, the Frenchman is one of the best young players in the top-flight of English football. In fact, Daniel Sturridge even thinks Kroupi is already “one of the best finishers in the Premier League”.

Devastating in front of goal, quick, clever with his movement and versatile, there is simply so much to like about the young attacker. It is widely expected that in the coming years, he will become one of the best strikers in the world, if he isn’t already.

The only trouble is that actually extracting him out of Bournemouth will be difficult. They are seeking a fee of around £90m and do not particularly want to sell.

As a result, Spurs need alternatives.

Spurs have the perfect Kroupi alternative in their sights

Given Arsenal are also interested in signing the Cherries striker, it would be quite the coup if Spurs were able to seal Kroupi’s signature.

If they are not able to do so, then Spurs will have to look elsewhere with the likes of Dusan Vlahovic and Igor Thiago both mentioned at various stages of the summer.

They have also added Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi to their shortlist according to TEAMtalk, who report this week that the 21-year-old is under consideration by ENIC.

Spurs are said to have already commenced background work on a potential deal. They will face competition from the likes of Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal who have all made enquiries about his availability.

Considering he has not been performing in a top five European league, it would be interesting to see how the young striker’s skillset transfers to the Premier League but it is hard not to be impressed by this young clinical marksman.

After all, he’s actually more prolific in front of goal than the aforementioned Kroupi who is just one year Tresoldi’s junior.

Last season, the German scored 22 goals and registered six assists in 50 matches for Brugge. It was comfortably the best season of his career and it is now arguably no surprise to see him take the interest of some of the continent’s top clubs.

Hailed as a “Luis Suarez regen” by scout Jacek Kulig, Tresoldi is not the quickest nor the most frequent of dribblers but what he is particularly good at it is bringing teammates into play and linking an attack together.

Like Suarez, he’s an aggressive presser out of possession and has strong work rate. Combine that with his clinical nature in front of goal and you have a very interesting profile of striker, certainly a different one to Dominic Solanke.

In the Belgian Pro League last term, he ranked among the top 4% of strikers for goals per 90 minutes, as well as sitting among the best 9% for chances created with 1.37 per 90 and the top 25% for touches in the opposition box.

Sure, he may not have lit up a big league like Kroupi just yet but you all have to start somewhere and Tresoldi has a profile that would lend itself very well to the Premier League given how hard he works off the ball.
