Before they’ve even reached August, Parkhead chiefs have been forced to listen to chants in protest from Celtic fans, who are continuing to air their frustration about the club’s transfer business.
The Bhoys have once again been slow to act in the window, with Camilo Duran still the only name to arrive. Targets like Motherwell’s Elijah Just look set to be heading elsewhere, meanwhile, and that’s before Celtic’s own exit door swings open to compound their misery.
That’s when the reality of their transfer hesitation will begin to kick in. With Daizen Maeda pushing for an exit and Ipswich Town swooping in, former Celtic winger Aiden McGeady now believes the club were always facing an “inevitable” sale.

Whilst Maeda steals the headlines, Arne Engels could also sneak out the door. Premier League interest in the midfielder is not new and clubs have previously been quoted a hefty £25m price-tag. Whether the likes of Nottingham Forest match that fee is the big question. |

McGeady: What Celtic must do after selling Maeda
Speaking exclusively with Football FanCast, McGeady claimed that Maeda’s exit was “inevitable” at Celtic this summer. The former star believes it is simply the model at Parkhead, as the Bhoys look to build up stars before selling for profit.
“It would make a massive impact. In previous years, Celtic have been known for selling players for profit. Celtic have got an amazing model, they have had for a number of years, but too often it’s been a case where they let players go without bringing replacements in.
“We’ve seen that when they let Adam Idah go and they never had a replacement in. So I think Celtic need to be careful this season with what they do. I think losing Maeda was inevitable at some point. It’s going to happen because Celtic’s model is a selling club.” – McGeady
The 40-year-old wasn’t short on praise for the forward, describing him as “fantastic”, but last season may have been the last that Celtic fans got the chance to see their star in action. As Ipswich come calling, a departure is looking increasingly likely.
