Weston (Fla.) Cypress Bay four-star edge rusher Meshi Dobson has committed to Florida State, he announced to social media moments ago.
Dobson, who was originally in the 2028 recruiting class, also announced that he is reclassifying to the 2027 class.
“It was a good experience being able to reclassify and commit to a very good team,” Dobson said of this decision.
He picked the Seminoles over other top contenders like Syracuse and Miami as well as over 30 other scholarship offers.
Several factors played a role in him choosing the ‘Noles.
“Florida State, it’s not too far away from home,” he said. “Like I said, growing up, Florida State has always been a big team to me. I really think I can fit in at that team — that’s where I belong.”
Edge rushers coach Nick Williams led FSU’s effort in recruiting Dobson to Tallahassee.
“He’s got very good morals and he’s not just a coach to me, he’s a very good, excellent role model to me,” he said. “He does his job to look out for me. He sends me film on what I need to be learning and what I need to be doing to get better. He sent me some moves and skills that I never knew.”
He says FSU wants him to ‘play d-end and linebacker.’
His former teammate at Cypress Bay, four-star athlete Za’Kari Johnson, recently made the same move, reclassifying to 2027 and committing to the Seminoles.
The 6-foot-3, 235-pound edge rusher finished his sophomore season at Plantation (Fla.) High with 72 tackles and 14 sacks.
Dobson, a ’90’ grade four-star recruit in the 2028 class per 247Sports, is now assigned a high three-star ’88’ grade as a class of 2027 prospect.
