Spurs ready to ramp up move to sign £51m star

2025 proved to be a summer of frustration for Tottenham Hotspur, with then-boss Thomas Frank missing out on a string of marquee names.

From Morgan Gibbs-White, to Eberechi Eze, to Bryan Mbeumo, it felt like one setback after another for the Lilywhites, with Frank also admitting that the club had held interest in Antoine Semenyo, before the Ghanaian’s January move to Manchester City.

Sticking with the Etihad side, the sense was that Spurs were also pushing to land City’s Brazilian winger, Savinho, having seen two bids rejected for the youngster.

That interest has been maintained even amid the change of manager at N17, with it looking increasingly likely that the 22-year-old will be part of Roberto De Zerbi‘s squad next season.

Assessing Savinho’s 2025/26 season in numbers

The belief is that Tottenham will come to the table again to try and sign Savinho, even after a difficult 2025/26 campaign for the ex-Girona man.

It had initially been a fruitful start to life in England, as he racked up eight Premier League assists in 2024/25, although he subsequently fell from favour last time out, as the winter arrival of Semenyo only further nudged him down the pecking order.

In all, the South American scored only once and registered just one assist, having been restricted to just seven top-flight starts as Pep Guardiola favoured the likes of Semenyo, Rayan Cherki and Jeremy Doku on the flanks.

That reduced game time saw Savinho fail to create a single big chance, while averaging just 0.7 successful dribbles per game. For context, the year prior, he’d created 11 ‘big chances’, while averaging 1.8 successful dribbles per outing.

It is that form of 2024/25, alongside his heroics at Girona the season before, that Spurs and De Zerbi will likely be gambling on, with the £60m man not exactly arriving with any momentum behind him.

He is a talent, undoubtedly, as his 19 goals and assists in LaLiga in 2023/24 showcase, but Tottenham might well need more than just one attacking arrival if they are to raise the levels in De Zerbi’s squad ahead of next season.

It might well require looking beyond the Premier League for other exciting young talents.

Spurs could sign Savinho upgrade in £51m star

The backline and midfield ranks have been significantly bolstered so far this summer, but Spurs are still waiting to freshen up the forward line, with youth the order of the day.

A year ago, the Lilywhites did invest heavily in both Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus, although both men saw their seasons cut short by injury, with Simons still sidelined by an ACL issue.

The Dutchman had been plucked from RB Leipzig on a £52m deal, with reports in England suggesting that it could take a similar fee for Spurs to land his former teammate, Antonio Nusa.

The suggestion is that both Tottenham and Arsenal are ready to do battle for the Norwegian’s signature, with the Bundesliga side likely to demand a figure in the region of £51m.

It is said that Spurs are ‘firmly in the race’, although they need to oversee outgoings first, before they can then launch an ‘official bid’ for the 21-year-old.

The fleet-footed winger is fresh off a fine World Cup as Norway reached the quarter-final stage, memorably curling home a stunning effort to open the scoring against the Ivory Coast in the round of 32.

Like Savinho, Nusa is a really explosive, dynamic talent who can thrive on either flank, albeit with the Scandinavian enjoying a far more eye-catching 2025/26 campaign than the Man City star.

Indeed, back in the Bundesliga, the Leipzig sensation scored and assisted seven goals, well ahead of Savinho’s return of two, while also creating nine ‘big chances’ and averaging 1.1 key passes per game.

Where he particularly excelled was with regard to his dribbling prowess, with Nusa averaging a stellar 2.2 successful dribbles per game across 2025/26, well ahead of Savinho’s aforementioned average.

For context, the former Club Brugge starlet ranked second in the German top-flight in terms of total successful dribbles completed (68), finishing only behind teammate Yan Diomande, who was well out in front on 118.

It is, undoubtedly, Diomande who is earning the real rave reviews at Leipzig right now, but Nusa shouldn’t be overlooked, with £51m likely set to prove a snip for a player of his potential.

Savinho, at 22, does have the benefit of his recent Premier League experience, although it was a muted 2025/26 campaign, with it yet to be seen if he can find his feet again.

In Nusa’s case, the Norwegian is a player truly on the rise, with it likely to taste pretty sweet of Spurs can beat Arsenal to his signature.
