AJ Williams, the No. 1 overall recruit in the class of 2028, is reclassifying to 2027, a source told 247Sports.
The 6-foot-7 prospect from McDonough (Ga.) Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy is among the top prospects in all of high school basketball.
The 17-year-old Williams, born June 28, 2009, played up on the U17 Circuit this summer with Team CP3 on the Nike EYBL Circuit where he was among the top scorers in the class despite being a class younger.
With his reclassification, Williams will still be NBA Draft eligible for the 2028 NBA Draft.
Williams is a dynamic three-level scorer with an advanced scoring package, possessing polished footwork, instincts and a shot-making ability with premier physical tools that further set him apart.
The five-star guard has been pursued by schools, including Duke, Auburn, Georgia, BYU and many more and is expected to begin scheduling visits soon.
Williams is among several players to reclassify in the past two years including previously No. 1 ranked recruits in Marcus Spears (Texas), Bruce Branch III (BYU), Baba Oladotun (Maryland) and more beyond.
The reclassification trend is expected to continue growing as young athletes want to raise their earning potential earlier in their careers.
Williams certainly won’t be the last to reclassify in 2028 up to 2027.
Williams averaged 20.9 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists with CP3 this summer.
