Episcopal (Baton Rouge, La.) opens its 2026 high school football season Sept. 4 on the road against Ascension Catholic (Donaldsonville, La.).
The Knights announced Tuesday their 2027 schedule will begin with a bit more travel as they have a season-opening game in Ireland.
The Advocate in Baton Rogue reported Episcopal will play a yet-to-be-determined opponent on Aug. 27, 2027 during the Global Ireland Football Tournament. The contest will take place before a college game between Pittsburgh and Wisconsin in a 6,000-seat rugby stadium.
“After 30 years of coaching, opportunities to do something out of the norm are exciting,” Episcopal head coach Travis Bourgeois said in a press release from the school. “This will give our kids the chance to do something no other Episcopal team has ever done before. Our athletes will be ambassadors for the sport, our state and our school.”
The school announced that the football team, dance team members, drum corps members and spirit groups will all travel to Dublin for the game.
The Knights went 5-6 last season and reached the first round of the Division III select playoffs. Bourgeois begins his 32nd season at Episcopal and his 27th as head coach. He is
the winningest coach in school history with an overall
record of 191-99. He has led two teams to the state semifinals (2002
and 2013) and was named Class AA Coach of the Year in 2002.
