Mitchell Turner is the 247Sports Preseason Player of the Year in Mississippi for high school football’s 2026 season.
The 6-foot-3, 275-pounder is a senior defensive lineman from Louisville (Miss.) High.
“Turner’s production exploded in 2025, when he tallied 15.5 sacks,” said 247Sports national scouting analyst Gabe Brooks. “He’s a high-energy, explosive interior defender who displays startling redirection ability relative to his mass. Snaps on offense as a blocking tight end, plus an astronomical .522 batting average as a sophomore on the diamond, bolster Turner’s on-field and multi-sport profiles. So not only does he show impactful point-of-attack playmaking ability, but he checks off scouting markers we see frequently as long-term indicators of success.”
One word comes to mind for 247Sports national scouting analyst T.J. Randall.
“Explosion is Turner’s calling card, both on and off the football field,” Randall said. “He smashed eight home runs and drove in 47 runs on the baseball diamond as a junior, a sport he has been playing at the varsity level since he was in the eighth grade, according to MaxPreps. On the gridiron, it was rare to watch blockers match his explosive movements to prevent early victories and a flurry of backfield activity.”
Turner announced his Ole Miss commitment June 23. He chose the Rebels over Alabama, Mississippi State and Texas, among others.
