Nottingham Forest submit offer to sign “incredible” £9m speedster with talks ongoing

Nottingham Forest have submitted a bid for Fiorentina star Dodo, and talks regarding a deal for the defender are currently ongoing.

After sealing a deal for Liam Delap, who joined from Chelsea in a club-record £50m deal, Forest have now turned their attentions towards improving their defence, and Dodo is among the targets, with the Brazilian capable of playing at right-wing back.

That makes the Brazilian ideal for Oliver Glasner‘s system, with the Austrian opting to play three-at-the-back, although he hasn’t had much success at the City Ground thus far, losing 1-0 against Leeds United in the Premier League, before exiting the EFL Cup with a 2-0 defeat against the same opposition.

Those results suggest there is work to be done before the September 1st transfer deadline, and the Fiorentina defender could be a solid option, having received plaudits from former Shakhtar Donetsk assistant manager Vitor Severino.

Severino has been left particularly impressed by his pace, saying: “One of his best features is definitely his speed – he’s super fast – but while he used to be a player who made mistakes and allowed opponents to capitalize on them, today he’s more mature.

“He makes better decisions, he positions himself better today, and he’s a player I really like a lot. I think he has a lot of quality and above all, he’s an incredible person.”

The Brazilian is an experienced full-back, having made 114 Serie A appearances for Fiorentina since joining in 2022, including 36 last season, during which time he made a number of key contributions in both defence and attack, showcasing that he is a well-rounded player.

According to a report from FirenzeViola (via Sport Witness), Nottingham Forest have submitted an opening offer for Dodo, which was rejected by Fiorentina, with the Serie A side still holding out for €10m (£9m), which should be an affordable fee.

Forest remain in talks to seal a deal for a lower price though, and the South American full-back is keen on the move, having already reached an agreement on personal terms.

The Serie A side are under pressure to sell the 27-year-old this summer, as his contract is set to expire at the end of next season, and Evangelos Marinakis may be looking to use that to his advantage.

Should they strike an agreement, Dodo would be challenging for Aina’s starting spot, with the Nigerian defender starting the Tricky Trees’ opening two matches, although he was unable to help his side keep a clean sheet in either game, in what has been a slightly concerning start.
