University of Georgia commit Colton Nussmeier was ruled ineligible Tuesday after a district executive committee deadlocked on whether his transfer from Marcus (Flower Mound, Texas) to Ryan (Denton, Texas) was athletically motivated.
It’s the second transfer denial of a high-profile, Dallas-area football player in the past five days. John Meredith, the state’s top-ranked cornerback, was deemed ineligible for his transfer from Trinity (Euless) to North Crowley (Fort Worth).
Regarded as one of the top quarterbacks nationally in the Class of 2027 according to 247Sports, Nussmeier threw for more than 1,300 yards and 12 touchdowns last season as Marcus went 5-4. In three seasons, he has thrown for more than 3,500 yards and 32 scores.
The son of former NFL quarterback and current New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier, Colton’s brother Garrett is a quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs.
He recently competed at the Elite 11 quarterback competition.
The district committee voted 3-3 on Nussmeier’s transfer, which then reverted it to the school’s recommendation.
Meredith’s transfer denial came down Thursday in a 5-2 vote that denied his move to North Crowley, which finished 12-2 last season and won the Conference 6A Division 1 state title in 2024.
The No. 1 corner in the nation and No. 2 player overall in the Class of 2027 according to 247Sports has more than 40 offers including Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech.
