After avoiding relegation on the final day of last season, Tottenham Hotspur have naturally wasted no time before commencing their summer business.
Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi were rapid arrivals as free agents, and Jan Paul van Hecke has since joined them in a deal worth around £52m. But Spurs aren’t done there.
They’re well aware that rebuilding their side in Roberto De Zerbi‘s vision will take plenty of resources this summer and, simply put, relegation was far too close to a damning reality last season.
With the backline reinforced with three impressive names, the focus now turns to the rest of the squad. The next name through the door on that front could be Sandro Tonali.
Spurs have already seen their £75m offer knocked back by Newcastle United, but that may not stop them from returning with a bid closer to the Magpies’ £100m valuation.

Spurs have been quick out the blocks in the summer transfer window and are chasing another deal.
Although competition from elsewhere complicates things for the Lilywhites, Tonali isn’t the only name that they could steal from under the noses of their Premier League rivals. Those in North London have also got their sights set on a World Cup goalscorer.

Tottenham battling Man Utd for Premier League striker
Alongside Tonali, there’s also plenty of interest in another Premier League star. According to TeamTalk, Tottenham have dispatched club officials to join the race for Brian Brobbey.
The Sunderland star is set to be a wanted man following an excellent debut campaign in England and an impressive World Cup performance so far.
If Tottenham want to sign the Dutchman, then they’ll have to fend off competition from Manchester United, who are hoping to land a backup striker for Benjamin Sesko.
The Red Devils are keen to get their business done early, themselves. They’ve already agreed a deal to sign Ederson from Atalanta and have already got West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes in their sights.
Now joining the race for Brobbey, it seems like INEOS are keen to continue a recent trend of plucking players from fellow Premier League sides this summer.
Praised for his “powerhouse” performance against Newcastle by Sky Sports presenter Dave Jones last season, Brobbey is well and truly at the peak of his powers.
For Tottenham, he could be the cherry on top in what has already been a fantastic summer of recruitment in North London.
