Justin Wetzell clashes with Sarvarjon Khamidov at PFL San Diego on June 27th. Wetzell appeared on Bowks Talking Bouts to touch on returning after reaching the 2025 PFL tournament finals. When touching on the promotion shifting from their bracketed structure and securing a high-level opponent here for his 2026 return effort, Wetzell said [via BTB],

“Yeah, PFL ditched the tournament format and I don’t really have a problem with that, man. With how I finished last year and the caliber of opponent I have, I think a good win here puts me right back into the contention.”

Responding to the characterization that he is still very much in the mix within the top bantamweights in the promotion as they still move toward outlining a 135-pound champion this year, with a localized focus to his opponent tomorrow, Justin Wetzell stated [via Bowks Talking Bouts],

“Yeah, I think Sarvarjon; I think very highly of him. I think he’s top two or three in the division, man. He’s one of the toughest fights and beating him puts me right there.”

Justin Wetzell sees a lot of himself in his PFL San Diego opponent and is ready to show out

While Sarvarjon Khamidov is coming off a loss to Magomed Magomedov, Khamidov has also tested skills with Marcirley Alves, who is a mutual opponent of Wetzell’s. When referencing his thoughts on Khamidov’s last outing against Magomedov, Wetzell quipped [via Bowks Talking Bouts],

“Yeah, and I actually thought he won his last fight, man. I thought he won all three rounds against Magomed Magomedov. Yeah, but it is what it is.”

In terms of the machinations of the matchup and what he sees Sarvarjon Khamidov bringing to the PFL Smart Cage in California this weekend, Justin Wetzell said [via Bowks Talking Bouts],

“I mean, I see a lot of his style the same as mine, man. He’s a very, very, very good wrestler. He’s in great shape. He’s a very tough fighter. I know he hits hard. He’s going to bring a pace, man. He’s going to bring a lot of wrestling. He’s going to bring a lot of things that I bring to the table. I think he’s my toughest fight to date.”

“I think he’s tougher than; I don’t want to say tougher but I think stylistically he’s a harder matchup than Marcirley Alves. I think he’s going to be my hardest fight. Yeah, there’s there’s no sugar coating it, man. He’s a very good fighter. So am I and I’m going to get through him.”
