Teams are calling the New York Islanders about Mathew Barzal
Stefen Rosner: Have heard that more teams have been calling the New York Islanders about forward Mathew Barzal, given how the forward market has been. Bazal has a 22-team no-trade clause.
It’s believed that the Dallas Stars and Montreal Canadiens have checked in on Baral.
It is GM Mathieu Darche’s job to listen on all calls, which is not a surprise.
Marco D’Amico: Not a surprise that the Canadiens checked in on Barzal. They’re not believed to be on his no-trade list. The Islanders are not looking to take a step back, so they aren’t after futures.
Marco D’Amico: “Remember the Islanders fired Patrick Roy days before the end of the season, because that’s how important the playoffs are to them. Don’t expect a package of futures to get things done. Makes far more sense from Dallas’ perspective.”

On if the Montreal Canadiens are ready to make a big move
TSN: Craig Button on with Jay Onrait on the Montreal Canadiens and if they’re ready to make a big move.
** NHLRumors.com transcription
Onrait: “Okay, let’s talk about Jeff Gordon. He said Thursday, the team will continue to follow their approach as far as adding players. They don’t want to rush anything, but you and I know very well, and we’re going to go quickly here. They need a second-line center. Shouldn’t, isn’t now the time to make a big move?
Button: “Oh, yeah, absolutely it is. I love the way we’ll do things, at the right time. They traded for Noah Dobson last year. They gave up the 16th and 17th. So they’re ready to act or ready to pounce if the right player is there.
But you got a team that went to the Conference final this year and a really good team. So where opportunity presents itself, and Montreal has done a great job of it, they’ve acted. They’re not going to be willy nilly, but they will act if the right player is there.”

What should the Ottawa Senators be looking at?
TSN: Craig Button on with Jay Onrait on what the Ottawa Senators should be looking to do.
** NHLRumors.com transcription
Onrait: “(Ottawa Senators) got William Ecklund. What should be Steve Staios’ next move?”
Button: “I think, trying to get a defenseman that can play on the right side, second pair. just get a little bit more. Tyler Kleven’s, a good, solid, hard-nosed player, but just get a little bit more support on that right side.
Conor Murphy would have been a nice fit for them, in my view. He’s with the Oilers.
