Sportsnet 650: Thomas Drance, talking about the Vancouver Canucks potentially trading forward Elias Pettersson. They may not have a list of teams that he’d okay a trade to, but they have a sense of where he’d go.

Drance: “I’ve been checking in on this. I don’t think anything’s imminent by any means. And I also think Ryan Johnson‘s formulation from , that like they’re not scurrying back and forth getting lists. And they’re waiting, that you know, his name’s out there, and it seems that they’re working to get close. And at that point, players with various forms of no-trade or no-move protection, including Pettersson, who has a full no-move, will then be involved in the conversation.”
The latest on Connor Hellebuyck and Dylan Larkin
Host: “Just one note on this that was in the broadsheet for me before we continue with the Pettersson conversation. (Rick) Dhaliwal mentioning on Halford and Brough that he’s heard Montreal might be sniffing around. Patrick Johnson reports that in The Province as well, he’s heard directly that Montreal is interested in Pettersson.”
Drance: “But there’s a feeling among teams that are at least gauging or tire-kicking on this subject that the way deals are moving, like Pettersson’s not far away from being market value without a bounce back.”
Host: “Yeah.”
Drance: “Right. I mean, that’s not just like fantasy land in the 650, 650 Dunbar Lumber inbox. Like, well, what’s even 11.6 these days? It’s like, yeah, people around the league know too.
But like, hey, there’s a chance that Pettersson’s market value in 12 months, even if he is just this middle-six center now, right? Now, you’re also hoping that you can get more out of him.”
Host: “Your, your, I guess the thinking from teams would be, okay, there’s a world where in 18 months, whatever he is right now is like you’re basically paying market rate for it, but you’re getting that sliver of upside chance still that you wouldn’t get on, you know, if you were acquiring like whatever comparable center you want to compare him to around the league, right? Middle six guy.
So you’re it’s like, okay, he’s gonna be close to market value, but there’s some lottery ticket upside baked in that most guys don’t have.”
Blue Jackets are taking calls on Zach Werenski, and Other Pre-Draft Speculation
Drance: “So, yes. Canucks motivated to move Pettersson, not imminent. Haven’t necessarily got a list, but do have a sense of his preferred destinations.”
Host: “Right.”
Drance: “Will engage in conversations in the event that things get close, that, that is for sure on the Canucks radar, based off of what I’m hearing from multiple league sources, you know, around the NHL morning.”
