Glasgow Rangers must still regret that they allowed Lewis Ferguson to slip through their fingers when he was in the academy set-up at Ibrox.

The Scotland international came through the youth ranks with the Gers before being released and working his way through the ranks elsewhere, shining at Aberdeen and now Bologna at first-team level.

He started three of Scotland’s four matches at the World Cup and is now a target for the Scottish Premiership giants, who want to bring him back to Ibrox this summer.

The Gers have already made contact with Bologna to enquire about what a deal for the central midfielder would look like in the summer transfer window.

It is now down to Derek McInnes and the board to decide whether or not they want to meet the demands that were outlined to them during their talks with the Italian side.

Rangers eyeing deal to sign Premier League forward

The Scottish star played 27 times in the Serie A last season and would arrive as a proven player in one of Europe’s major leagues if he joined the club this summer.

Whilst Ferguson would be a high-profile addition to the squad, given his experience at the club and international level, the Scottish giants are looking at a player who is an even bigger talent than the Bologna ace.

According to Football Insider, Glasgow Rangers remain interested in a deal to bring Mikey Moore back to the club in the summer transfer window.

The report claims that Derek McInnes’ arrival has not impacted the club’s interest in a move for the England U20 international, as the Scottish manager would like to add him to the squad.

It adds that Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur have told the 18-year-old winger that they are willing to send him out on loan again next season after they avoided relegation to the Championship.

Football Insider also states that Moore’s preference could be to return to Ibrox for a second spell, which could give the Gers an advantage in the race for his signature.

Why Mikey Moore is a bigger talent than Lewis Ferguson

A return to Ibrox for Ferguson would be a good story, given his family history and connection with the club, but Moore is the bigger talent from a footballing perspective.

The English forward is currently valued at even more than the Scotland international, despite being 18, as he is valued at £15m by Transfermarkt, £3m more than Ferguson.

When the Bologna star was 18, he was coming through at Hamilton and playing a bit-part role off the bench before his move to Aberdeen, whilst Moore was starring for Rangers in the Premiership.

The 18-year-old wing wizard racked up 14 goals and ‘big chances’ created combined in 33 appearances in the top-flight in the 2025/26 campaign for the Light Blues.

It was his first season out on loan after making his breakthrough at Spurs as a 17-year-old, and he caught the eye with his impressive performances under Danny Rohl.

Before turning 19, Moore has played in the Premier League, played regularly for Rangers in the Premiership, won the Europa League with Spurs, and is valued at almost £20m.

He has huge potential, given what he has already achieved in such a short time in his teenage years, and looks like he has a higher ceiling than Ferguson, who is playing for Bologna in the Serie A in his prime.

Whilst there is no guarantee that he will fulfill his potential, bringing Moore back would mean that the Gers have a chance to see if he can explode during his time at Ibrox, delivering quality on an even more consistent basis after a year of experience last term.

There should, therefore, be even more fanfare around a possible deal to sign the English youngster again instead of signing Ferguson from Bologna, as he is an even bigger talent with more potential for the future.

It is now down to McInnes and the board to convince Spurs to send the versatile forward back to Glasgow for a second loan spell, rather than exploring a new adventure for the youngster.
