Conor McGregor has responded to Justin Gaethje, while making it clear who he wants to face next after UFC 329.
This weekend, “The Notorious” returns to action after a 5-year hiatus to face Max Holloway again. The McGregor vs. Holloway 2 clash, which headlines UFC 329, is a five-round welterweight bout.
During UFC 329 media day, when the Irishman was asked to respond to Gaethje’s remark that he would love to punch McGregor in the face, the Dubliner quipped:
“Yeah, join the queue. Join the queue. There’s a few, you know. Yeah, look, he [Justin Gaethje] has the lightweight belt. Fair play to him. [Max] Holloway put him face down… Badly, badly face down. So, you know, I’m not even thinking of it at this time, but I got down to lightweight again. Also was another thing. I don’t, I’m not so sure.”
Gaethje most recently won the undisputed UFC lightweight championship by dethroning Ilia Topuria at the White House on June 14. “The Highlight” plans to defend his belt in 2027 and has also shown interest in a potential bout with Conor McGregor. He will also be present cageside at UFC 329 when “The Notorious” returns.
Conor McGregor shows interest in facing Islam Makhachev
Conor McGregor’s comments during the media day presser suggest that he is not game to move back down to 155 pounds for a showdown with Justin Gaethje. Instead, the former UFC double champ wants to fight 170-pound titleholder Islam Makhachev next in pursuit of three-division glory. He added:
“I fancy the triple crown. I fancy the triple crown. So, less of the disrespect, you f**king bum.”

Most recently, Alex Pereira became the first fighter to attempt to win a third belt. However, “Poatan” was stopped by Ciryl Gane on June 14 and sent back to the drawing board.
If “The Notorious” wins this weekend, he will set his crosshairs on Makhachev, who is scheduled to defend his welterweight title against McGregor’s countryman, Ian Machado Garry, next month at UFC 330.
