AJ McKee ended up putting the first blemish on the record of a promising combatant during his last foray into the PFL Smart Cage, but ‘The Mercenary’ collected a victory even before entering the confines of the cage. McKee would earn a unanimous decision win over Salamat Isbulaev at PFL San Diego on June 27th and walked out to that outing with rapper O.T. Genasis, who performed his hit track “Everybody Mad” while the former Bellator MMA champ made it rain.

When asked how the memorable entrance, that drew out a huge pop from the crowd, came together and the overarching reasoning behind it, McKee said [via Bowks Talking Bouts],

“Man, it’s a Long Beach thing [laughs]. Strong beach all the way. We stick together. Long Beach has produced some of the best athletes, some of the best artists in the world. You know what I mean? Long Beach is for breeding top-tier quality, you know? It’s something about the lifestyle, coming from nothing, and being able to make it out. A lot of people don’t understand it, but the way we work, we come from nothing. You know what I mean? We’re not supposed to make it out of where we come from.”

AJ McKee: “if it ain’t money, don’t call my name”

Further delving into the emotional underpinnings of the entrance song and the tendrils of the walk-out that connect deeply with his California roots, AJ McKee continued [via Bowks Talking Bouts],

“All odds are put against us. We just continue to show up and show out. So, that song I’ve enjoyed for so long cuz I’m addicted to getting the money. I got to get the money. You know what I mean? Everybody get mad when I get the money. So, they going to try to put whoever, whatever in front of me to stop that from happening. But at the end of the day, if it ain’t money, don’t call my name.”
