Sunderland are still looking to flex their European status for the first time. Having spent most of their summer shutting down major exits for the likes of Ganit Xhaka, the Black Cats are now keen to welcome some additions of their own.
They’re not short on ambition these days, either. Far from it, in fact. After Barcelona moved in to sign Karim Adeyemi, those at the Stadium of Light have been handed a major boost in pursuit of Roony Bardghji.

Credibility |
The arrival of Karim Adeyemi is set to push Bardghji out the door at Barcelona and his representatives have contacted suitors as a result. That includes Sunderland, who could land a statement deal for Regis Le Bris in the form of one of Europe’s most talented young players. |
|
Finances |
Given that Barcelona are pushing Bardghji towards the exit door, they may be in the mood to accept a cut-price or perhaps even a loan deal this summer. The Catalan giants only signed the young star for £2m last year, so are bound to at least make some profit. |
|
Insight |
Bardghji has faced the ruthless reality of life at the top over the last 12 months. He’s shown plenty of glimpses of what he could offer Barcelona, but it’s not been enough. Alas, the 20-year-old is still immensely talented and could quickly become the biggest regret as far as those at the Nou Camp are concerned. |
|
Impact |
It would be some statement from Sunderland and could take up a lot of their budget. Whether they would return to the market much more after Bardghji would be the big question. |
Bardghji could quickly become Premier League treasure after heading towards Barcelona trash. It’s just up to the likes of Sunderland to make their move.
Sunderland in talks to sign Bardghji
According to TeamTalk, Sunderland are now in talks to sign Bardghji from Barcelona after receiving contact from his representatives. The Catalan club are ready to bid farewell to the 20-year-old just one year after his arrival, with his minutes only set to decrease after their transfer business.
Sunderland are yet to submit an offer, but will be well aware of the chance that stands before them. They will need to move quickly if they want to snap the winger up, given that Leeds United, Aston Villa and Everton among the other clubs to have held talks.
Sunderland should prioritise Bardghji move
Not only do Sunderland have the chance to get one over on their Premier League rivals this summer, but they’ve also got the chance to welcome an excellent young talent whilst doing so.
There are many good reasons why Barcelona snapped Bardghji up last summer. Even if things haven’t worked out, his potential remains clear for all to see.
Dubbed “brilliant” by journalist Bence Bocsak, Bardghji could take Sunderland’s attack to a whole new level.
