Leeds United and Sunderland won’t be easy acts to follow, but they’ve at least left the blueprints for survival behind for the likes of Coventry City to follow next season.
The Sky Blues look to be following it every step of the way if recent reports are anything to go by, too. In an attempt to get their business underway in style, the newly-promoted side have launched contact to sign Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek from AC Milan this summer.

Credibility |
It looks like Frank Lampard could be getting the band back together this summer. Reports from Italy are claiming that Coventry have made contact with both Tomori and Loftus-Cheek to find out whether they’re interested in a move, whilst AC Milan have already green-lit their departures. |
|
Finances |
Milan are reportedly willing to accept a discounted price to sell the English duo, such is their desperation to part ways with the pair. That’s a major boost for Coventry, who have been handed all the encouragement they need. |
|
Insight |
The Premier League needs little introduction to Loftus-Cheek and Tomori. The former is still an excellent box-to-box midfielder and has performed on the very top level. Tomori, meanwhile, was a key player under Lampard at Chelsea and has since impressed in Italy. |
|
Impact |
If Coventry signed the former Chelsea duo, it would be a major statement of intent and it would sum up the attraction of playing under Lampard for several stars. |
Although the Sky Blues are still looking to get their business underway, reports suggest that they could yet do so in style by reuniting Frank Lampard, Tomori and Loftus-Cheek.
Coventry launch contact to sign Loftus-Cheek & Tomori
According to Italian journalist Carlo Pellegatti, as relayed by Sport Witness, Coventry have made contact with Tomori and Loftus-Cheek over a potential summer move.
“Here, there’s some news from England, there’s some good news from England. Last season, Frank Lampard’s Coventry won the Championship. Well, Frank Lampard knows both Tomori and Loftus-Cheek very well, having had them at Chelsea.” – Pellegatti
AC Milan have also already green-lit departures for both players and are willing to accept a discounted price to push them out of the San Siro as soon as possible.
Coventry should go all out for Tomori and Loftus-Cheek
As far as statement signings go, it doesn’t get much better than a Premier League winner and a Serie A winner as far as a newly-promoted club is concerned.
Coventry have the chance to commence their summer business in style and at a discount by welcoming two players that Lampard already knows incredibly well.
Tomori particularly stands out. Whilst his time at Milan has become more frustrating in the last 18 months, this is still very much a player who was at the heart of their Scudetto win in the 2021/22 campaign. He would transform Lampard’s backline.
