Wisconsin has landed the commitment of Orlando (Fla.) Bishop Moore Catholic three-star linebacker Cale Britt.
Britt picked the Badgers over 30 other scholarship offers.
The Sunshine State linebacker explained what separated Wisconsin from the plethora of other college programs interested in his services.
“When we went to Wisconsin, it was just a different feeling I got from a couple of the other schools,” Britt said. “It literally just felt like home, honestly… Then also, one thing for me was every visit I went to, Wisconsin just kept — it was stuck in the back of my head. The way it made my heart feel, it was just amazing. I couldn’t stop thinking about them, and I was like, why wait? Why would I wait when I could just pull the trigger now?”
Head coach Luke Fickell led the way in Britt’s recruitment to Wisconsin. However, two recent visits to Madison truly made the difference.
“The way Coach Fickell made my family and I feel at home, just by the first visit, was just tremendous,” he said. “It was super cool to just see how much he was bought in on the first visit. Then, the second visit just blew my grandfather and I out of the water. It was amazing. They literally rolled out the red carpet. They took us to lunch, we all had lunch together, and it was a three-day visit. It was amazing.”
The effort by one Wisconsin staffer in Britt’s recruitment should not go unnoticed.
“I would say [insider linebackers] coach [Tuf] Borland — the way I’m able to connect with him since I feel he’s a little bit younger and he’s played the position — was also a big part of it,” he said. “He’s able to just connect. One thing that really stuck with me is when I left the second trip, he told me, “When you go on all these other visits, I want you to make sure you’re looking for a teacher, not a coach.” The way he said that, and the way I could see how he was not just a coach, he was also a teacher, it really opened my eyes.
The Badger staff feels like they can get create with Britt’s skillset at the next level.
“They said I’m going to be kind of their chess piece,” he said of Wisconsin’s plan for him defensively. “Coach Fickell said they’re going to use me everywhere. I’m going to learn both MIKE and WILL positions, and then they’re going to try to put me on the edge a little bit, see what I can do there”
Britt is Wisconsin’s first commitment in the 2028 recruiting class. He is excited about the opportunity to help build up the class around him.
“I think it’s a really cool — it’s a really great responsibility,” he said of being Wisconsin’s first 2028 commit. “I think it’s cool because Wisconsin’s fans, from the get-go, they followed me crazy on my first and second visit. To be the first ’28 commit, I feel it’s just going to be a lot of eyes on me where I have to take that responsibility in and be able to help build this team up. I mean, the recruiting class this year was just insane, and I want to make that even better for the ’28 class.”
He says one of his primary targets will be Jacksonville (Fla.) The Bolles School four-star running back Xander Edwards. The two played on the same lacrosse team when they were younger.
Moving forward, Britt says that while he will respond to coaches from other schools who reach out out of respect, but that he is 100 percent locked in with the Badgers.
Ahead of the 2026 season, which is shaping up to be an important one for Fickell and his staff as they look to turn the program around, Britt is confident they will field an impressive product.
“When I went up on the first visit, I went for a spring practice. The way coach Fickell and coach [Mike] Tressel coach up their defense, it just showed that the demeanor this year from last year is just completely changed,” he said. “I feel they’re stepping it up tremendously. I truly believe — well, actually, so we watched offense and defense practice against each other –and the way the intensity and the energy that they brought to the practice, it was super cool to see. I truly believe in the bottom of my heart that they will have a really good season this year just by watching their practice and listening to coach Fickell’s beliefs and coach Tressel’s beliefs, and seeing them coach. I truly believe.”
247Sports assigns Britt a ’89’ grade, making him a high three-star prospect. He ranks as the No. 19 linebacker and No. 42 recruit in Florida in the 2028 class.
As a sophomore last season, Britt totaled 118 tackles, four tackles for loss and three sacks per MaxPreps.
