Oneal Delancy, the No. 53 overall recruit in the 2027 class, has committed to the Houston Cougars, sources told 247Sports. The 6-foot-2 combo guard out of Montverde (Fla.) Academy chose Houston over Maryland, Ohio State and Florida State, among others.
Delancy is the first commitment for Kelvin Sampson in the 2027 class, making for a strong start to their recruiting class efforts.
“Houston was great,” Delancy told 247Sports in a recent interview. “It’s a family-oriented place. You’ve got coach Kelvin Sampson and his son Kellen Sampson on staff — they’re hard workers who never miss a day. It’s crazy how consistent they are. Whether it’s early in the morning or late at night, you always have access to the gym. It’s a great place to be.”
The four-star guard is coming off a Peach Jam championship with the Florida Rebels and brings valuable traits to the Cougars in the years ahead.
Delancy has long been an instinctive three-level scorer with the ability to create his own scoring opportunities, make difficult shots and brings added toughness to Houston’s backcourt.
While an established scorer, Delancy has been maturing and expanding his game as a playmaker, bringing additional versatility with his ability to spend more time playing on the ball.
With the Rebels, Delancy averaged 16.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, three assists and one steal per game, losing just three games on the EYBL Circuit this spring and summer.
With Delancy now locked in, Houston continues their pursuits of Darrell Davis, Payton Jones, Asa Montgomery and Jayon Connor, among others.
By the end of the recruiting cycle, Houston is expected to bring in multiple impact recruits in the 2027 class.
