The comfort and fit blue-chip quarterback Christopher Vargas found at Ohio State went well beyond the offense. It was much deeper than the talent the Buckeyes have in the receiver room, which was a vital part of the decision.
When Vargas, who is the No. 2 quarterback and No. 4 player in the 2028 class, announced his commitment to the Buckeyes on Saturday, it was about his connections with and belief in coach Ryan Day and quarterbacks Billy Fessler outside of football pushed the Buckeyes to the top.
“Not everything is about football when I talk to (Day),” said the 6-foot-4 1/2, 195-pound Vargas, who plays at Danvers (Mass.) St. John’s. “Sometimes I would sit down and talk to him about life. Those are the things I love about Ryan. The way I can connect with him is something different.”
