Patchy Mix is coming off yet another setback in the Rizin ring, but Tapology doesn’t seem ready to officially acknowledge this. Due to a massive weight miss of nearly seven pounds over the contracted bantamweight limit, Mix was deducted two points by the promotion at the bout’s start on August 11th. While the former Bellator MMA champ and ex-UFC vet technically should have won on points over Shoko Sato at Rizin 54, the pre-fight outside-of-competition point deductions led to Sato being declared the winner by way of a unanimous decision.
Even if Patchy Mix did end up winning the bout though, per promotion regulatory considerations with how they handle weight misses, the fight would have ultimately been declared a no contest in the end anyway. “This policy developed after situations where post-fight or administrative penalties could produce outcomes that we felt were inconsistent, arbitrary, or potentially open to manipulation. To provide the full picture, we built our system to display both the result of the fight itself and any subsequent result imposed by the promotion.”
“We recognize that no policy handles every situation perfectly. Even before today’s RIZIN event, we had been discussing whether certain circumstances should warrant exceptions to these rules. Today’s unusual situation will certainly be part of those discussions.”

Patchy Mix explains Rizin 54 weight miss situation
Patchy Mix also took to his own personal X account to offer some clarity into why he missed the mark on the scales for this Rizin Fighting Federation bout. The tweet in question, via his X account @TeamMixMMA, saw Mix state,
“Very sorry to my opponent the boss and Rizin fans. As I got sick towards the end of my weight cut for my category. I am grateful that he still accepted the bout under these circumstances. Much respect but now I have to focus on putting the best match for the Japanese fans tonight.”
This now marks Mix’s second straight loss specifically under the Rizin banner, and it is his fourth straight defeat overall after his ill-fated 0-2 UFC run. The black cloud that looms over Mix continues to cast a larger shadow, with the usually reserved and respectful Japanese crowd also greeting him with audible boos before his Sato showdown at Toyota Arena Tokyo.
