Lee County scored the final 15 points of the game. Cohen Lawson threw a touchdown to Destin Bell and Dominique Ball scored a rushing touchdown. The scoring got started on defense though for the Trojans when Kelvin Streeter returned an interception 52 yards for a touchdown.
Santa Margarita knocked off Centennial 42-7 in last year’s CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship game.
Fletch Palmer, son of head coach Carson Palmer, got the start last week for Santa Margarita and threw for 242 yards and two scores. His favorite target was Class of 2030 standout Kiyan Callis, who hauled in nine receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown. Freshman linebacker Aydan Steen led the way on defense racking up 10 tackles and three sacks in a 27-0 win over Jones (Orlando, Fla.).
No. 13 Basha (Chandler, Ariz.) faces No. 23 Chandler (Ariz.) on Saturday in a rematch of last year’s Open Division state championship game. Basha cruised to a 34-7 win to claim its second Open Division title since 2022.
Another can’t-miss game Saturday features No. 2 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) against DeSoto (Texas) in a matchup of defending state champs. Aquinas has won a state record seven straight state championships in Florida while DeSoto has won three of the last four 6A Division 2 titles in Texas.
