Kentucky coach Mark Pope faced intense scrutiny this offseason after multiple high-profile misses in the transfer portal and on the high school recruiting trail. Much of that criticism was shelved Monday when the Wildcats landed former Iowa State sharpshooter Milan Momcilovic, the No. 2 overall player in the portal.

Kentucky had already convinced talented young center Malachi Moreno to return from the NBA Draft last week. Momcilovic’s addition now gives the Wildcats one of the strongest frontcourts in the SEC for the 2026-27 season.

CBS Sports insiders, via Eye On College Basketball, revealed the massive financial investment it took for Kentucky to secure both Momcilovic and Moreno for next season’s roster — and how that spending has bought Pope some much-needed peace for the next five months.
