After a spring loaded with camps, showcases and marquee events across the country, the picture of the 2027 class is coming into sharper focus. From The Opening to Elite 11 and countless stops in between, 247Sports evaluators gathered new data points and saw elite prospects compete against top-tier talent.
Now, with updated rankings in hand and senior seasons looming, it’s time to break down the standout performances, rising five-star contenders and recruiting trends that defined the offseason. Director of scouting Andrew Ivins and national analysts Gabe Brooks, TJ Randall and Hudson Standish explain:
BEST PERFORMANCES WE SAW THIS SPRING
The past three and half months have featured no shortage of camps, 7-on-7 tournaments and showcases around the country. There was even spring football in some states. While the game tape always drives the evaluation, is there one particular outing that will stick with you?
Ivins: I don’t think we have ever worked harder to get a kid to a camp, so when Oklahoma commit Gabriel Osborne Jr. made it to The Opening Dallas on Memorial Day Weekend, it was a bit rewarding because everything that we saw on tape translated to that 1-on-1 session. Osborne made a series of high-flying plays on the football while in coverage and frequently uncorked a devastating jam. He also measured much better than we expected. A decorated three-sport, Osborne recently took second at the Oklahoma 6A/5A state track meet in the long jump after leading a Mustang basketball squad to the 6A championship game a few months prior. He made plays in all three phases of the game as a junior and has what it takes to shadow offense’s top weapons on Saturdays and then Sundays.
