Tottenham‘s summer transfer window has developed into one of the busiest and most ambitious in the Premier League.

The north London club most recently completed a deal for Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke after agreeing a package worth £52 million.

Van Hecke’s arrival followed lengthy negotiations between the two clubs and represented one of Tottenham’s biggest defensive signings in recent years.

Spurs have also moved quickly to strengthen other areas of Roberto De Zerbi‘s squad.

Savinho has been another major target as Tottenham continue to reshape their attacking options ahead of the new campaign, while Andy Robertson has also arrived as part of the club’s efforts to add experience and depth.

They also managed to bring in Argentine Marcos Senesi on a free, with Johan Lange managing to sign three class defenders for just £52m in total.

Away from completed deals, much of the focus has centred on Tottenham’s midfield plans.

Sandro Tonali Newcastle

“Bit of a surprise” – What Sandro Tonali’s agents have now said to Tottenham

The Lilywhites are chasing a mega-money deal for the Italian.

Newcastle star Sandro Tonali remains one of the club’s leading targets.

Multiple reports have suggested Spurs are prepared to commit significant resources to a deal for the Italy international and figures in excess of £100 million have repeatedly been mentioned in connection with Tottenham’s pursuit of Tonali.

At the same time, Tottenham have continued work on a separate midfield target.

West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes has emerged as another player attracting serious interest from the club.

Recent reports suggested Spurs were close to reaching an agreement with Fernandes over personal terms.

Marca journalist Matteo Moretto said that, while no official negotiations have yet taken place with West Ham, progress is being made on the player’s side of the deal.

As widely reported, De Zerbi ideally wants both Fernandes and Tonali.

Meanwhile, Arsenal youngster Kryan Thompson is expected to join Spurs after deciding to leave the Gunners, and that move came shortly after reports emerged linking Arsenal with Tottenham academy defender Elijah Upson.

Tottenham have also continued to deal with significant interest in Luka Vuskovic, with Brighton making repeated attempts to sign the highly-rated defender.

Offers worth £30 million and then £35 million were both rejected by Spurs.

Reports have suggested Tottenham value Vuskovic at more than £60 million despite the player’s interest in moving to Brighton.

Against that backdrop of news, fresh comments have emerged regarding Tottenham’s pursuit of Fernandes.

Tottenham outbidding Man United for Mateus Fernandes

According to Daily Mail journalist Matt Barlow, Spurs have become the most aggressive club in the race for the midfielder.

Speaking to The United Stand, Barlow outlined what he has been hearing about Tottenham’s approach.

“What I’ve heard is that Spurs have come in, and Spurs are surprising people, not just at United, but across the Premier League,” said Barlow.

“They’ve gone really aggressive.

“My information is that Tottenham are already at the higher end of what United would be happy to pay for him.

“There’s still a belief he wants to play for United, but players tend to go to the club offering the most money.”

The ‘underrated‘ midfielder has featured prominently in reports concerning United’s search for additional central midfield options.

However, Barlow’s information indicates Tottenham are currently pushing harder financially.

The suggestion that Spurs are already operating above United’s preferred spending range highlights the scale of their interest.

Fernandes has become one of the most sought-after midfielders in the Premier League after his rise at Southampton and then West Ham, and his performances have reportedly attracted attention from clubs abroad like PSG and Real Madrid.

As things stand, no agreement has been reached between Tottenham and West Ham, and reports continue to indicate that formal club-to-club negotiations have yet to begin.

However, developments suggest groundwork is already being completed behind the scenes.
