The Toronto Maple Leafs are closing in on some deals

Darren Dreger: Though it’s not necessarily related to defenseman Morgan Rielly, but the Toronto Maple Leafs are closing in on some deals. Things are developing.

David Pagnotta: The Maple Leafs are working on some deals. Defenseman Jake McCabe is generating some interest. He does have a full no-trade clause. As of late morning, he hasn’t been asked to waive.

Defenseman Morgan Rielly and Brandon Carlo’s names are out there.

TSN: Chris Johnston said on Insider Trading that things are status quo on the trade front with Morgan Rielly. Brandon Carlo’s name has come up, and the asking price doesn’t seem that high.

“The ask at this point in time for Carlo is multiple mid-range picks by the Leafs.”

NHL Rumors: Rielly, Tuch, Werenski, Drysdale, Nurse, DeBrusk, Pettersson, and Boeser

Minimal talks between the Maple Leafs and Matias Maccelli

Nick Alberga: There isn’t really anything going on with pending RFA forward Matias Maccelli. The Leafs have been focusing on other stuff, so talks have been minimal.

The San Jose Sharks are getting lots of interest in their first-round picks

Eric Stephens: San Jose Sharks GM Mike Grier said this morning that he’s getting “lots more calls” on the No. 9 pick, and that he got two more offers for the No. 2 pick. One of them “that’s real interesting.”

TSN: There is a considerable amount of interest in San Jose’s No. 2 pick, according to Chris Johnston.

“This is how the Sharks are looking at it. They need to feel that they’re getting the equivalent of a top-line forward or top-pairing defenceman still in the prime of their career as part of any return that they would have if they are to part with that pick. But at this point in time, Mike Grier is certainly listening. He’s got an open mind, and his phone is on ahead of Friday’s draft because he is still willing to move that pick.”

NHL Rumors: Zach Whitecloud, Mason Marchment, A.J. Greer, and the Nashville Predators

The New Jersey Devils have a bit more flexibility now

TSN: Chris Johnston said that after acquiring two future first-round picks and a second-round pick, No. 35 on Saturday, the New Jersey Devils have a little flexibility.

“And while there isn’t necessarily a timeframe on this, I do think that gives the Devils a little more flexibility in other trades that they might make in terms of bringing back some players that can help in the shorter term, having that ammunition.”
