Zach Werenski vetoes a trade to the Dallas Stars
Chris Johnston: “Sources say Zach Werenski was presented with a trade option to a team he’s unwilling to waive his NMC for. His #CBJ situation seems to be devolving. Werenski never formally requested a trade, but has had honest talks about the future since April. Unclear where this goes next.”
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: Multiple sources said the Columbus Blue Jackets and Dallas Stars had verbal agreement on a trade that would send Zach Werenski to the Stars. The deal was agreed upon on Monday night, but they Stars didn’t find out until Tuesday next that it was vetoed. It had to wait until July 1st to be completed for contractual and/or cap reasons.
Defenseman Thomas Harley would have been heading back to Columbus, along with other players and picks.
NHL Rumors: Toronto Maple Leafs, Sergei Bobrovsky and Zach Werenski
This liking signals that he wants to remain in the Eastern Conference, and that the relationship between the Blue Jackets and Werenski is falling apart.
The Columbus Blue Jackets don’t want futures for Zach Werenski, as offers are coming in
Frank Seravalli: “Further to @reporterchris, sources say Zach Werenski is actively whittling down potential destinations he’d accept a trade. If it’s more than one team, it’s a short list. Right now, the list is unclear, but sources say #GoBolts remain engaged with #CBJ. Is Tampa ‘the’ team?”
TSN: A Zach Werenski trade could take days or weeks, according to Pierre LeBrun. The Columbus Blue Jackets have been going over offers the past few days. The Blue Jackets don’t want to do a futures deal.
“Tampa Bay is the team of choice for Werenski. Now, whether or not there’s a trade with Tampa Bay that can satisfy Columbus is another factor altogether. You know, does that require a third team getting involved?
We’ve talked about the Dallas Stars. Could Columbus go get Thomas Harley in a Werenski trade? That could be enticing.
NHL Rumors: Kirill Marchenko, Zach Werenski, Rasmus Andersson, and John Carlson
The Toronto Maple Leafs, yes, they are in the mix. Matthew Knies would be part of any package that Columbus would look at. But again, I don’t know if the Leafs have enough assets to entice the Blue Jackets.”
Philadelphia wants in badly on Werenski, and there are other teams.”
