Alexander Volkanovski has given his two cents on the Conor McGregor vs. Max Holloway 2 welterweight clash that is set to headline UFC 329 on July 11.
McGregor returns to action next weekend to run it back with Holloway, whom he beat by unanimous decision 13 years ago. Despite winning the first bout, “The Notorious” heads into UFC 329 as the underdog, with his five-year hiatus raising questions about what he has left in the tank.
Now, current two-time UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, who owns three victories over “Blessed,” has offered his take on how he expects the UFC 329 headliner to play out.

According to Alexander Volkanovski, although former UFC double champion Conor McGregor has been out of action for half a decade, come July 11, he will still be dangerous, and perhaps even possess the same power and accuracy he had when he was thriving in the octagon. Thus, the Australian believes Holloway won’t look to “run through” McGregor and will respect the latter’s power when the 5 round 170-pound clash begins. He said:
“Everyone thinks Max is going to run through Conor, but it’s not going to be that simple. Conor will be dangerous early, and Max knows he has to respect that power.”

However, once the fight reaches the championship rounds and McGregor gasses out, Volkanovski believes Holloway, who thrives in those frames, can finish “The Notorious.” He said:
“Max is going to eventually have his way. I’m gonna have to go Max Holloway for the win. Can it be a finish? 100%. If Max gets you tired, he’s so good at going in for the kill. He’s even getting much better in the pocket… It is going to be too much for Conor [to stand and trade in the pocket with Max].”

Max Holloway is planning exactly what Alexander Volkanovski has said. Yesterday, Holloway, while sending a warning to “The Notorious” ahead of their rematch, quipped:
“We drown him [Conor McGregor]. We’ll give him an old Hawaii-style beating and drown him. We take him to deep waters.”
