Marcus Spears Jr., the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2027 class, has committed to the Texas Longhorns and is reclassifying to join the Longhorns next season, sources tell 247Sports.

The 6-foot-9 five-star power forward out of Dallas Dynamic Prep picked Texas over Kentucky, LSU, Arkansas and several others.

Sean Miller already has one of the best rosters in college basketball next season but gets the ‘cherry on top’ with Spears’ decision.

He’s a long, athletic and high motor forward who impacts winning with his defense, toughness, utility, rebounding and finishing at the rim.

Due to Spears’ age, he will have two years to play before becoming NBA Draft eligible.

Spears comes into a stable and strong situation to bring depth to Texas’ frontcourt where he will be able to make an impact along with Matas Vokietaitis and David Punch while still working on his development on the court and particularly in the weight room.

With Punch and Vokietaitis expected to lead the frontcourt for Texas, Spears will be able to take his time in a loaded SEC while still impacting winning in meaningful minutes with his talent, utility, competitiveness and energy on the court.

Texas was dangerous before and they are even more dangerous now.
