Nottingham Forest are set to make a new bid for Tottenham Hotspur star Lucas Bergvall, after their initial offer was knocked back.
Forest are ramping up their pursuit of a new midfielder to replace Elliot Anderson, who joined Manchester City in a £116m deal earlier this month, and they have been working hard to secure Bergvall‘s signature.
It is no surprise the Tottenham midfielder is viewed as an heir, given that he is a few years younger than Anderson at 20-years-old, but has already emerged as a first-team regular, making 78 appearances for the north Londoners.
During that time, the Swedish youngster has picked up two goals and nine assists, and he was a constant attacking threat for Spurs in the Premier League last season, with an average of 0.5 shots on target per 90 ranking him third in the squad.
Any replacement for Anderson will need to be strong from a defensive point of view too though, and Bergvall fits the bill, according to scout Ben Mattinson, who said: “Lucas Bergvall is the no.8 your team needs. An uber-complete profile. Tall, creative enough to be a top-level no.10, strong duel winner, stamina, ball-carrier, good finisher, top mentality etc. I could go on.”
Ben Jacobs dropped an update on the Tricky Trees’ interest in the starlet on Thursday, and there has since been further clarification from John Percy.
Nottingham Forest set to make new bid for Lucas Bergvall
According to Percy, Forest are set to make a new offer for Bergvall, after their initial bid in the region of £38m was knocked back by Tottenham.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side are said to be holding out for £50m, but crucially, they are willing to sanction a sale this summer, as they look to fund their own transfer business.

Credibility |
With multiple trusted sources reporting on Forest’s bid, such as Ben Jacobs and John Percy, it is likely to be reliable. Of course, it is well-known that Oliver Glasner‘s side need to bring in a new midfielder, following Anderson’s departure. |
|
Finances |
It is understandable that Forest are testing the waters with lower offers to begin with, as a fee of £50m would make Bergvall the most expensive signing in their history. However, they can afford to match Spurs’ asking price if they feel he’s worth it, following the sale of Anderson for £116m. |

Insight |
The Sweden international isn’t exactly prolific going on the front foot, netting just one Premier League goal last season, but he did catch the eye going forward at the World Cup, grabbing an assist in a 5-1 victory against Tunisia. Last Word on Spurs’ Mitch Fretton also lauded the maestro as “amazing” during the 2024-25 season. |

Impact |
If Forest are able to tempt Spurs into a sale, they could end their pursuit of Celtic star Arne Engels. It was reported that a formal offer has recently been made for the Belgian, but the Hoops have thus far been unwilling to cash-in. |
