Manchester United are wasting no time this summer and are now in talks to sign Tottenham Hotspur youngster Tynan Thompson.
Having already welcomed two rival players in the form of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, those at Old Trafford have launched talks to sign a third Premier League player.
The Red Devils have spent much of their summer focused on reinforcing Michael Carrick‘s midfield. It’s why Tielemans and Santos have arrived and why the likes of Manu Kone are still on their radar.
That’s not to say it will just be midfielders who arrive ahead of next season, though. Those at Old Trafford have also set their sights on rising stars from elsewhere, including Tottenham’s Thompson.

Football FanCast’s Verdict |

|---|---|
|
Credibility |
The aim of the game for Man United seems to be to weaken rivals wherever possible, even when targeting young players. Thompson is certainly a rising star at Tottenham and they’ve recognised that, swooping in as they look to land the 18-year-old winger’s signature. |
|
Finances |
The deal is unlikely to break the bank given how young Thompson is, but it will be a ‘formal transfer’ after the teenager signed a professional contract in North London last summer. |
|
Insight |
Thompson has impressed at youth level. Just last season, he was involved in 19 goals in 26 games across competitions like the UEFA Youth League, in which he scored seven goals in seven games, and Premier League 2. He is very much one to watch. |
|
Impact |
It will be an unexpected blow for Spurs. They only secured Thompson on a professional deal last season, but he could be off to a rival club just over 12 months later. |
Man United are rapidly forming a group of impressive young talents. JJ Gabriel is someone who looks destined to steal the headlines after a phenomenal season at Carrington and Thompson will only add to what is already a talented set of players.
Man Utd in talks for Tottenham gem Tynan Thompson
As reported by The Evening Standard’s Sam Tabuteau on Saturday morning, Man United have launched talks to sign Thompson from Tottenham.
Negotiations between the clubs are already ‘taking place’ over a ‘formal transfer’.
The 18-year-old only signed a professional contract in North London last summer, but could already be on the move. In terms of potential, the young winger is someone who should be ready for senior football sooner rather than later.
After seven goals in seven games in the UEFA Youth League last season, Thompson will be looking to link-up with the likes of Gabriel at Carrington next season if United get their deal over the line.
The teenager could become the third Premier League player to complete a move to Old Trafford this summer, as INEOS continue to shop locally for rival stars.
