With Hall’s future now increasingly uncertain, the Magpies have launched an enquiry for Tottenham’s Spence, Football FanCast sources understand.

The versatile full-back starred on the left side of defence during England’s World Cup campaign, but is expected to leave North London in search of more playing time.

Spence played six times under Roberto De Zerbi last season but only twice from the start, with just one of those starts in the left-back position.

The 25 year-old, who arrived at Tottenham in a £20m deal from Middlesbrough in July 2022, would prefer to join a team participating in next season’s Champions League amid interest from Inter, which could prove a stumbling block for the Magpies following a poor 2025/26 campaign.

A left-back is high on the agenda at St James’ Park this summer as they anticipate Manchester United’s official bid for Hall, and they have also joined the race for Nottingham Forest man Neco Williams.

The Wales international, formerly of Liverpool, was one of the Tricky Trees’ standout performers as they avoided relegation last season, scoring twice, providing three assists and making 2.6 tackles per game, a figure only bested in their squad by £116m man Elliot Anderson.

Forest are taking steps to try and keep hold of the 25 year-old, entering into talks over a bumper new deal to ward off interest from both Newcastle and Tottenham, who themselves have shortlisted him as a possible replacement for Spence.
