Arsenal have made a breakthrough in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez, who has now held direct talks with Andrea Berta.
Jeremie Aliadiere believes Mikel Arteta will need more options in the striker department, as Gabriel Jesus could be in line to leave, and the former centre-forward believes Alvarez could be the ideal addition to the Spaniard’s squad.
“I know Gyokeres has had a successful season, but obviously he’s going to need someone else that maybe can play there. I know Havertz can play there. And Mikel loves to play Havertz up there as well in big games.
“But, for me, if you tell me Alvarez is happy to come to Arsenal, I’ll have him tomorrow. I think he’s an amazing player and we saw it against England again [at the World Cup]. He’s running for himself and for Messi. He does the pressing on his own. And that’s the type of player I think I want to see at Arsenal.”
Aliadiere was left impressed by the Argentine’s performances at the World Cup, where he scored once in eight games, while he has also remained a consistent source of goals and assists since joining Manchester City ahead of the 2022-23 season, before moving to Atletico in the summer of 2024.

According to a report from Caught Offside, Arsenal have now made a breakthrough in their quest to sign Alvarez, who has now held direct talks with Berta.
Atletico Madrid have now informed the Argentina star’s agents they would consider selling him this summer, which suggests the Gunners could be well-placed to secure his signature, as the former Man City man would be open to a return to the Premier League.
The Spanish side have set an asking price of at least €200m (£170m) though, displaying just how highly they rate the centre-forward, who has previously received major plaudits from football analyst and YouTuber Zaan.

The Gunners are in pursuit of a new striker, but they are also keen on signing a new left-winger, and they have been forced to move onto Morgan Rogers alternatives, as the England international is set to sign for Chelsea.
There is no shortage of options, with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola, RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, AFC Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi, Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White all being named as potential targets.
