It’s been another miserable summer for Newcastle United so far. They’ve missed out on their top attacking target in Victor Munoz and their top midfield target in Johan Manzambi. Both deals were hijacked and the Magpies have been forced back into their Groundhog Day of rejection.
Still they kick on, though. Those at St James’ Park have now turned their focus towards their backline and have joined the race to sign AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori alongside Coventry City.

It’s not often that a Scudetto-winning defender with experience in the Premier League and Champions League becomes available for just €20m (£17m) and that’s what makes Tomori such a must-buy option.
As reported by Corriere dello Sport and relayed by Sport Witness, Newcastle and Coventry have received the green light to sign Tomori and the defender’s exit away from Milan is now seen as inevitable.
He has just one year left on his current deal, hence the bargain price. It’s now down to the two Premier League clubs to turn their interest into an offer.

As a centre-back partnership, Tomori and Thiaw could hand Newcastle their best duo since Sven Botman and Fabian Schar were consistently together. The Milan man would bring plenty of experience and the added tackle success that Thiaw lacks, while the Newcastle man would maintain high duel success.
There’s a long way to go before Tomori can become a Premier League player again, but a Milan exit certainly looks on the cards this summer.
