The Maryland Terrapins have suffered a huge loss before the 2026 season has seen one snap played.
Star defensive end Zahir Mathis suffered a season-ending injury in practice. According to Jeff Ermann of 247Sports, a school spokesperson confirmed the injury.
The exact nature of the injury isn’t known, and how it happened has yet to be revealed. Without a doubt, though, this is a massive loss for the Terps.
Mathis, a 6-foot-6, 222-pound sophomore EDGE, was a freshman All-American last season and one of the best players on the team heading into 2026.
