Well, if you thought Tottenham Hotspur would be battling the drop again next season, you can think again.

While football may not be played on paper, at the moment, they really do look set to make a big improvement in 2026/27 as far as their league placing is concerned.

Roberto De Zerbi has helped Spurs survive relegation and is not here to mess around. He has clearly been given the authority to have a major say in the club’s transfer business.

A player he knows well, Jan Paul van Hecke is set to move to north London in a £52m move while another player he has a connection with, Sandro Tonali, could make a spectacular move from Newcastle in the forthcoming weeks.

That said, they are not the only two deals currently in the pipeline. There’s more to come.

Spurs ramping up plans to sign big-money winger

So, Spurs have ticked the box of improving their defence. Van Hecke will be the third arrival at the backline with deals for Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi already sewn up.

Next, attention has to be turned to improving the forward line. They have a few targets in mind.

Andy Robertson for Liverpool-1

Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo could join former teammate Robertson in London with initial talks having already been held while reports out of France suggest that Lyon’s Malick Fofana has actually agreed a move to Tottenham.

That one feels a tad farfetched and a far more plausible signing would be that of Manchester City winger Savinho.

Spurs made a bid for the Brazilian last summer but he ultimately ended up staying at the Etihad. However, now he really is looking for a way out of Manchester and De Zerbi could be his lifeline.

Providing the latest on the club’s pursuit of the player, Fabrizio Romano said on YouTube: “Savinho is a possibility for Tottenham, a strong possibility. There are conversations ongoing with Tottenham and Manchester City. Savinho was keen on a move one year ago and is still keen on a move now. The project is even more ambitious with a coach like Roberto De Zerbi pushing a lot.”

Savinho

Previous reports have outlined it could take a fee of £60m to seal a move.

Why Savinho could be Tottenham’s new Kulusevski

Has anyone seen Dejan Kulusevski anywhere? No, we haven’t either. It’s been a really sad state of affairs for the Sweden international over the last year.

In an ideal world, he should be featuring for his country at the World Cup right now but that is simply not a possibility. Like James Maddison, Deki has been on the sidelines for an awful long period of time.

Kulusevski picked up an injury at the back end of the 2024/25 season and did not play a single match in 2025/26. The wide forward has not played at all since 11th May 2025.

While details of the problem have not been disclosed of late, it’s clear the Swede is really struggling to make a comeback. Whether he will be the same when he comes back very much remains to be seen.

However, in Savinho, they could replace some of Kulusveski’s best qualities from out on the right flank. Both left-footed right wingers, one of the 26-year-old’s core strengths is his ability to create.

While Spurs’ number 21 scored ten times the season before, he also registered 11 assists. In the creative department, he is elite.

Manchester City's Savinho scores their second goal

Kulusevski ranked as high as the top 5% of positionally similar players in the Premier League during 2024/25 for chances created with 2.45 per 90 minutes. He also ranked as highly as the best 8% for successful dribbles, completing 1.43 per 90.

Savinho is very much cut from a similar cloth. In the same campaign, the Brazilian only scored three goals in all competitions but did produce 13 assists. Like Kulusevski, he’s really creative.

During that term, he provided 2.34 chances per 90, only a fraction behind the Swede. In the dribbling department he was even more effective, completing 2.64.

If there is one area of the game that Savinho thrives in, it’s in one v one situations. In a similar way to Kulusevski, he can float inside from the right flank and wreak havoc. Thus, if De Zerbi is to be without the former Juventus man again in 2026/27, the signing of a likeminded player is going to be a game-changer.
