It was just over a month ago that Danny Rohl took his Glasgow Rangers side to Tynecastle with the aim of keeping their slim Premiership title hopes alive, albeit with Derek McInnes and the hosts ultimately proving victorious.

Now, McInnes is ready to succeed Rohl in the Ibrox dugout, the experienced Scot set to join ex-Hearts skipper, Lawrence Shankland, in making a long-awaited move to Glasgow.

The Gers have already poached the Premiership‘s most potent striker of recent years and could now add the division’s leading manager of last season, with McInnes having done a fine job to steer Hearts to within a whisker of the title.

His task now is to try and go one better with the Light Blues, doing what a succession of managers have failed to achieve since Steven Gerrard’s glorious unbeaten campaign in 2021.

Having Shankland in the building will help in that regard, but further statement deals could also be in the works to kick the McInnes regime off with a bang.

Latest on Rangers’ interest in Claudio Braga & Vaclav Cerny

Unsurprisingly, there is already talk that McInnes could be keen to raid his former club for the signing of the PFA Scotland Player of the Year, Claudio Braga, following the Portuguese’s stunning exploits in his debut Premiership season.

The 26-year-old arrived as a relative unknown from Norway’s second tier, yet swiftly secured cult status in Edinburgh, netting 14 times alongside Shankland as part of the division’s most feared forward line.

The suggestion is that the Gers could be seeking to rekindle that relationship at Ibrox, with Braga – who is also a reported target for Celtic – potentially available for a fee of around £5m.

Braga & 6 new signings arrive: The dream XI Rangers could build under McInnes

A look at the dream starting line-up that could be built under incoming head coach Derek McInnes at Rangers.

A similar figure could also be needed with regard to another reunion of sorts, with reports earlier this week indicating that the Old Firm side could look to bring Vaclav Cerny back to Ibrox.

The former loan hero appears to be available for a fee of around £6m, if not slightly more, with Bestikas keen to recoup the fee they paid to sign the Czech winger from Wolfsburg last summer.

Whether Rangers would be willing to cough up remains to be seen, although the belief is that they would be willing to break their current youth-centric model in order to re-sign the 28-year-old, for the right price.

He’s already been there and done it in a Rangers shirt, although he isn’t the only one.

Rangers need to sign a bigger talent than Braga and Cerny

Cerny, who netted 18 goals while on loan in 2024/25, is among a string of temporary signings who have flourished at Ibrox, including Malik Tillman and Abdallah Sima before him.

It’s hard to think of too many who have impressed quite as greatly as young Mikey Moore, however, with there surely still an appetite to bring the 18-year-old back next season, either on loan again or on a temporary basis.

The departure of Rohl may have shifted the dynamic, although so too has Tottenham Hotspur’s successful survival bid, with it yet to be seen if he will have a role to play under new boss Roberto De Zerbi back in north London.

Talks have already been held in recent weeks and months regarding a deal to keep the England youth star on board, with Moore fresh from a stellar season that saw him claim the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

Cerny and Braga, in their own respective first seasons in Scottish football, certainly caught the eye, but for Moore to have dazzled at such a young age really does speak to just what a talent he is.

Already a Europa League winner at Spurs, the youngster overcame a difficult start to life in Glasgow to emerge as a shining light of Rohl’s tenure, notably scoring twice away at Parkhead in 2026.

There was also that standout display against the club’s Glasgow rivals in the 2-2 draw at Ibrox in March, with Moore tormenting the likes of Julian Araujo in the first half, in particular.

For now, he’s the joint-second most valuable player in the Premiership, behind Arne Engels, with Braga only ranking in 13th on the list, according to Transfermarkt.

He scored and assisted ten league goals, created seven ‘big chances’ and averaged a stellar 1.5 successful dribbles per game, ranking fourth in the division for total successful dribbles too.

By his own admission, he wants to become “one of the best players in the world“, and while that appears unlikely to be the case for both Braga and Cerny considering their age, the chance is very much there for Moore to kick on even further over the coming years.

Even if it is merely another loan, adding Moore to McInnes’ ranks would mark a fine way to kick off the summer, with it difficult to think of a deal that would go down any better with the Gers faithful.
