As Arsenal‘s Bukayo Saka twinkle-toed his way down the right hand side before delivering an inch-perfect cross into the path of Jude Bellingham, there was only going to be one result. A goal.
The Real Madrid man was just yards out and headed home to give England the lead in Mexico City. What a game this was, eh? The Three Lions secured their passage way to the quarter-finals of the World Cup courtesy of a dramatic 3-2 win. It was one of the most chaotic games we have ever seen.
Yet, one man stood calm despite everything that was going on. That was Bellingham. Never one to be overrawed by the occasion, the 23-year-old popped up twice, scoring two goals within 98 seconds of absurd football. It’s always him. He loves the big occasion and has delivered on a huge stage again, scoring four goals in five matches in North America.
How Arsenal would love to have a player like that their disposal. Well, perhaps they could have one by the time the summer window comes to an end.
How Arsenal could sign their own Jude Bellingham
If Arsenal are to seriously strengthen their title-winning squad this summer then it’s likely they will have to pay a premium. That’s the way the market is heading after Elliot Anderson headed to Manchester City for £116m and Sandro Tonali joined Tottenham Hotspur for £100m.
Premier League clubs, in particular, will now use that as their guide when it comes to selling players. It’s perhaps unfortunate for Arsenal that there is a World Cup. Without, they may well have been able to get a few moves over the line quicker.
Alas, when signing elite talent, you are rarely going to pick up a bargain. One of the Gunners’ primary targets in Bradley Barcola could be sold by PSG for a similar amount to Anderson while Julian Alvarez could fetch an even higher price.
That said, Mikel Arteta needs attacking upgrades. The thought is that if they are planning on selling Leandro Trossard – as now looks likely – they already have a replacement lined up.
One such replacement could well be Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, a player who has been painted with a ridiculous £130m asking price.
The latest on their pursuit comes from trusted insider Hand of Arsenal who reveals that Rogers is actually “very open” on moving to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Andrea Berta is said to be working on signing both Rogers and Barcola at the same time. That, however, does not mean that they want to sign both. It would likely be one or the other.
Why Rogers could become Arsenal’s very own Bellingham
Bellingham is just a remarkable talent. Given his debut by Birmingham City at the age of just 16, it wasn’t long before he was making a name for himself on the continent at Borussia Dortmund.
In Germany, he was easily one of the best talents in the Bundesliga and it was not a surprise when one of Europe’s biggest clubs came calling. Real Madrid signed the England international in a deal worth £88.5m. Given the fees Tonali and Anderson have moved for this summer, that feels like a relative bargain.
In the Spanish capital, he has taken to life like a duck to water. Having now spent three years in Spain, Bellingham scored a mind-boggling 23 goals while also registering 13 assists during his debut season at the Bernabeu. It’s safe to say he’s living up to the famous number 5 shirt that Zinedine Zidane wore.
He’s a true galactico and even if his numbers have not been quite as impressive in recent years, scoring eight and assisting five last term, he’s still a regular contributor in the final third. We’ve seen as much during the ongoing World Cup.
That said, in Rogers, Arsenal could sign the next best thing. Best mates, there is something of a Bellingham about Rogers’ general play. Indeed, the latter even said “there are a lot of similarities” between the two only last month.
The pair grew up within five miles of each other in the Midlands and have risen up the ranks together. Their story is similar and so is their style of play.

The primary similarity is, of course, positionally, but they both have this powerful running style and carrying ability that can take opponents out of the game in an instant. When they both get the ball, it’s incredibly difficult to get it off them as they drive towards the box from central areas on the pitch.
Bellingham is no doubt the bigger talent but Rogers is on the way to creating a name for himself too. After all, he did actually produce more end product last term than his good pal.
As Villa won the Europa League and secured Champions League football, their star man netted 14 times and provided 12 assists for his teammates. Like Bellingham he’s capable of scoring and providing in pretty equal measure.
Not just athletic runners, they are also powerful and strong, more on the taller side than a classic number 10 of the past. They are more of a modern attacking midfielder; a multi-faceted player who doesn’t just create like Mesut Ozil in his prime but also scores regular goals.
Why Arsenal’s very own Morgan Rogers will never play for the club again
Arsenal cannot afford to be sentimental this summer as they chase Morgan Rogers.
