Why Newcastle are ready to make a big move to sign £40m winger

However, the strength of the Bazoumana Toure signing cannot be understated. The Ivory Coast international has the potential to replace Gordon and go on to become one of the best wingers in the Premier League.

Newcastle paid a pretty penny to bring Toure over from Hoffenheim, signing the Ivorian star for £43m. A host of top clubs wanted him, but on this occasion, Howe and co won the race.

The “explosive winger“, as he has been called by talent scout Jacek Kulig, is fast and direct, boasting natural creativity that could be a game-changer for a Newcastle side who went a bit stale in the build-up last season. For all his quality, Gordon struggled to sustain his best level in the Premier League.

Toure needs to work on his shooting, but what a talent. Moreover, he expressed a desire to play for the Toon, and it cannot be understated how important it is that Newcastle sign committed players this summer.

The left winger has solved a big part of the puzzle, but with Jacob Murphy being linked with a move to Everton, the Magpies may need to consider the right side of their attack too.

Toure is going to be a work in progress; there are no guarantees that he will hit the ground running in the Premier League. With that in mind, it might be worth Howe raiding a rival for someone who will provide an instant lift.

That man could be Manchester United’s Amad Diallo. As per Africa Soccer, Newcastle are determined to mount a bid to sign Amad this summer, though they will face stiff competition from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Amad emerged as a target for Sunderland before the end of the 2025/26 season, with a £40m price tag mooted, but it feels likely that United would demand much more now, having laid out their not-for-sale stance this summer. Despite this, the Magpies continue to crank up the pressure.

Hailed as a “magician” of a player by sports writer Veronica Commey, the former Black Cats loanee has scored 11 goals and supplied 14 assists in the Premier League, and last season, he completed 88% of his passes and won four duels per game, outlining an underlying athleticism that would see him dovetail into Howe’s world.

Amad is an immensely talented player, silky on the ball and clever with his movements, relishing the task of outwitting defenders and working his way into space. When he strikes the ball, he strikes it well, and it would certainly add a dimension at St. James’ Park, the perfect counterpoint to Anthony Elanga.

When considering the wealth of experience he has in the Premier League, the more focal role he would play at Newcastle, and the streamlined approach that Howe would offer him, allowing him to nurture his potency in front of goal, a one-way trip to Tyneside is surely something that Amad should consider.

He showed for Ivory Coast at the World Cup that he can star on the biggest stages, whereas Toure failed to make much of an impact across three outings, one start.

Toure did thrive in the Bundesliga last season, and given that he tends to play down the left channel, we could be looking at a two-sided partnership, but there’s no question that Amad would be the more exciting arrival.

There is a reason that Man United don’t want to part with their maverick forward, but Amad is developing in his seniority, and he will now be eager to cement himself as a focal point.

Newcastle could offer him that; there is a vacancy now that Gordon has departed. Toure is only 20 years old, and while he has so much potential to tap into, Amad could be a game-changer from the get-go.
