How Spurs could sign a Pedro Neto upgrade for £43m

It is an open secret that Tottenham Hotspur head coach Roberto De Zerbi wants the club to strengthen the quality of his options at the top end of the pitch before the end of the window.

The Lilywhites have been pursuing a deal to sign Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo to add to their ranks on the left flank, but the Reds will only cash in on him for a significant transfer fee.

He is not the only Premier League forward on the club’s radar, though, as the Premier League side are also eyeing up a possible move for Chelsea wide man Pedro Neto.

The Portugal international, who is also being looked at by Manchester City, could be available for a fee of £60m before the end of the transfer window.

Why Spurs should avoid a deal for Pedro Neto

Spurs need to add genuine quality to their attack in the coming weeks because none of their players registered more than five assists in the Premier League last season.

Richarlison, who scored 11 times, was also the only player to score more than five times in the division for the North London outfit, whilst only two players scored more than four goals.

Neto’s performances for Chelsea in the past two seasons do not suggest that he raises the ceiling for Tottenham as an attacking force, as he is also an inconsistent performer in the final third when it comes to scoring and creating goals.

The Portuguese winger did not record more than five goals or more than six assists in either of his first two Premier League seasons with Chelsea, showing that he is not an outstanding contributor at the top end of the pitch.

Spurs should, therefore, avoid paying a significant fee to bring the attacker to the club this summer because he is not a big enough upgrade on what they already have to justify the deal.

Spurs preparing bid to sign Pedro Neto upgrade

The club are already said to be looking at another option to improve their quality out wide, and it is a player who is even better than the Chelsea forward.

According to Journalist Ali Naci Küçük, as relayed by Sport Witness, Tottenham Hotspur are one of the teams in the race to sign Galatasaray attacker Baris Alper Yilmaz before the end of the summer window.

He reveals that Everton have already had an offer of around £30m turned down by the Turkish giants, and that it is Spurs who are currently showing the most interest in the winger.

Küçük claims that Spurs are ready to launch an offer of around £43m for the 26-year-old star, as ENIC look to splash the cash again to bolster De Zerbi’s squad, but it remains to be seen how Galatasaray will respond to that bid.

It is now down to ENIC to structure the offer in a way that convinces the Super Lig side to part ways with the Turkey international, so that they can bring him to North London this month.

Yilmaz’s form for Galatasaray in the 2025/26 campaign suggests that he would be a much better signing for the club than Neto would be, and for a potentially cheaper transfer fee.

The 26-year-old star scored three more goals and provided five more assists for his teammates at league level last term, suggesting that he has the potential to carry a much greater threat in the final third.

Whilst he is unproven in the Premier League, Yilmaz has shown consistency in his attacking performances for Galatasaray in recent seasons, as he scored 14 goals and created 14 ‘big chances’ in all competitions in the 2024/25 campaign.

In the last two seasons, the Turkish sensation has racked up 24 goals and 17 assists, whilst creating 28 ‘big chances’ for his side, in all competitions, which shows that he can score and assist goals at an impressive rate.

He could offer more at the top end of the pitch than Neto, who is the same age, after the Portugal international failed to record more than five goals or six assists in the last two Premier League seasons.

That is why the club should push to make sure that this incoming bid for Yilmaz is accepted so that they can then forget about a move for the Chelsea forward, who does not appear to be what they need to improve their squad.
