College football’s roster landscape looks a little different this cycle, and not just because of who moved — but how. What was once a two-window process featuring both a winter and spring transfer portal has been consolidated into a single winter window.

Despite the condensed timeline, the volume of prospect movement was anything but quiet, with our staff at 247Sports grading more than 2,600 players this cycle. Now with spring ball wrapped up and the 2026 NFL Draft in the books, we’ve conducted a full audit of our rankings — and what drives the most movement at this stage is simply the hundreds of hours of tape evaluated and the ability to stack each position group, comparing and contrasting prospects against one another to ensure the rankings accurately reflect their true order.

What follows is an explainer of Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby‘s ranking and 12 of the biggest risers inside the top 100.

Ranked the No. 2 overall prospect in the 247Sports transfer portal, Sorsby’s 2026 outlook took a significant turn in late April when Texas Tech announced the quarterback would take an immediate, indefinite leave of absence to enter a residential treatment facility for a gambling addiction. The NCAA is currently investigating Sorsby for allegedly placing thousands of online bets on a variety of sports via a gambling app — most notably on Indiana football during his time as a redshirt freshman with the Hoosiers in 2022. As of now, Sorsby has not formally lost his eligibility and will remain eligible until the conclusion of the investigation and any subsequent appeal process.

Given the uncertainty surrounding his status, Sorsby’s ranking reflects his projectable on-field ability and production as a player — not a guarantee of availability in 2026. Before the news broke of his leave of absence, the former Cincinnati standout was projected as a top 10 NFL Draft selection and the third quarterback selected in my 2027 NFL Mock Draft for CBS Sports.

Coming off a 2025 season in which he accounted for more than 2,800 passing yards and 27 touchdown passes to just five interceptions, Sorsby’s 6-foot-3, 235-pound frame, combined with his unique arm talent and mobility, suggest that he has the goods to tempt NFL teams with an early selection. Although his immediate future remains unclear, it’s more than likely that Sorsby will still be a hot commodity even if it’s through the NFL’s supplemental draft.
