Rangers have been handed a boost in pursuit of Scotland international Lewis Ferguson after welcoming Ross McCrorie to officially kickstart the Derek McInnes era
The Gers are clearly a side that means business this summer. They wasted no time before getting their business underway and ruffling a few feathers in Scotland, signing Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland before also stealing manager McInnes.
Since then, McCrorie has arrived to replace James Tavernier alongside another upgrade to the defensive ranks in Ben Godfrey, with more impressive names potentially on the way,

Credibility |
The latest update is from TeamTalk, who claim that Ferguson is open to a Rangers move. Given that he has family connections with the club, it is certainly viable that he’d like a move to Ibrox. The move makes sense from a Gers perspective too, given they could see Nico Raskin leave the club this summer. |
|
Finances |
The deal won’t come cheap and Rangers know that. Bologna have told them that Ferguson will cost around £15m this summer, which could break their transfer record. The 49ers weren’t afraid to spend last year, but it remains to be seen whether they can reach the £15m mark. |

Insight |
Despite Scotland’s early exit, Ferguson earned plenty of praise out in North America this summer. Leanne Crichton told BBC Sport: “He’s had a really strong tournament so far and you can absolutely see his qualities.” |
|
Impact |
The 26-year-old is a fantastic box-to-box player and would be a statement signing at Ibrox this summer. Rangers should absolutely break their club record to sign if McInnes has picked him out as the man to lead his new homegrown spine. |
Rangers could decide to progress their pursuit now that they know the details, and the boost of Ferguson’s verdict should certainly go a long way.
Ferguson green lights Rangers move
As reported by TeamTalk, Ferguson has green-lit a move to Rangers this summer, with Ibrox chiefs now readying talks to land the Bologna midfielder.
The Italian club are reportedly demanding as much as €17m (£15m) to sell the Scotland star, which would break the Gers’ current transfer record in emphatic fashion.

Rangers also believe Ferguson’s family history should help lure him to Ibrox. The midfielder’s father, Derek, played for the club, whilst his uncle Barry remains one of the most respected captains in the club’s history.
Rangers should smash transfer record for Ferguson
It’s a statement summer from Rangers. They’ve already damaged Hearts, stealing their captain and then their manager. Now, they can flex their financial muscles by signing Ferguson and ease any pressure about the future of Nicolas Raskin in the process.
The Belgian has constantly been linked with a move away and it’s Rangers who have been left panicking as a result. The arrival of Ferguson would end that panic, for the Bologna man is a like-for-like replacement.

The numbers show how much of a miss Raskin would be at Ibrox, but they also show what Ferguson could offer. Dubbed “fantastic” by ex-Scotland manager Steve Clarke, although his output isn’t quite there, the Bologna star matched the Belgian all the way out of possession last season and that would prove to be crucial under McInnes.
Why Rangers must sign £4.3m star for McInnes instead of Luke Graham
Rangers are reportedly interested in a deal to sign a defender who is even better than Luke Graham.
