Orlando (Fla.) The First Academy three-star cornerback Kamauri Whitfield has committed to Florida, he announced live on the CBS Sports College Football Youtube Channel moments ago.

“Really just the energy and the winning Coach Sumrall will bring to the new staff,” Whitfield said. “It’s just crazy. Really just being an in-state kid and being recruited that hard by Florida. That just stood out to me the most.”

The Gators beat out Nebraska and Oregon for Whitfield’s services. He took official visits to all three programs over the summer but he has known for a while that the Gators would likely be his choice.

“I really knew after I left from up there [on my official visit], but I just wanted to see what every other school had to offer,” he said.

Florida likes him at two positions most in their secondary. The Sunshine State defensive back feels like he can see the field pretty early in Gainesville.

“Nickel and boundary safety,” he said of the positions they see him playing defensively at the next level. “I think I can see the field very quick there.”

Whitfield shared what Florida fans are getting in him as a player.

“Man, they are getting a pure dog,” he said. “An explosive dog that’s coming in hungry.”

247Sports ranks Whitfield, who stands 5-foot-10 1/2, 185-pounds, as the No. 48 cornerback nationally and as the No. 37 ranked player in the state of Florida within the 2027 recruiting class.
